    Unstable WATCHNET situation..

Hi there, I'm having some trouble on a fixed install with a Windows 10 Touch PC running watchnet to control timelines in a cluster of 2 Watchpax 4's. This server is also running a schedule to turn on the system in the morning and shut it down at the end of the day. Sometimes the server loses its connection to the watchpaxes or something and thus the system doesn't start up/shut down. I keep getting these WorkManager errors in the server window, sometimes directly on startup, sometimes after a few hours. I attached the log file, the first 2 lines are the 2 watchpaxes losing their communication. I need to fix this issue asap, but i'm not sure where to look.. Any tips on what to do? -No firewall running. -No internet connection -All fixed IP's -Art-net running on the network to control some lighting (controlled by WO) Complete reinstall of the Watchnet system? Or the whole windows installation? Hope anyone can help me, Thanks in advance! Kind regards, Ruben Wessels The Netherlands WATCHNET.log

    Videos not playing properly

Smooth playback depends mostly on file size, hardware specs and computer tweaking. I assume that your server is completely tweaked following the tweaking guidelines for Win 7!? Are your SSDs using RAID-0 configuration - and is WATCHOUT installed on this SSD raid? Is your OS on a separate SSD or at least on a separate partition? Have you checked the reading speed of your WATCHOUT SSD? Since you're using an 8-core CPU it might be a good idea to use chunks when encoding HAP.

Christopher don't take this the wrong way, but you need to do some research on your one. Use google and youtube. Me and David give you all the info you need in the thread to convert any video to Hap using FFMPEG. About the compression rate, HAP has no adjustable ratio, its fixed, use Hap for good image quality and use HapQ for better quality. 1 -> Download FFMPEG for Windows from ffmpeg win64 2 -> Extract the contents of the Bin folder to your c:/windows/system32/ ignore the other files (This is not the correct way to do, but it's the easiest) 3 -> Place the attached .rar file on you Desktop and extract 4 -> Drag and Drop the original video file to the .bat, the new converted file will be placed on the Desktop Desktop.rar Edit: Hap requires the video resolutions to be multiples of 4. The .bat files will check the resolution of the input file before converting, and if needed change it to the nearest multiple of 4 number. Ex: original video 320x282 after conversion 320x280

Hi! You have to decide on the compression rates yourself as I have no idea on how your system is setup nor what you want to achieve. Here are an example to convert to HAP. set input="E:\video\test\smple.mp4" ffmpeg.exe -i %input% -an -ss 120 -t 30 -c:v hap -format hap -chunks 4 -y bbb_2160p30_hap.mov ffmpeg.exe -i %input% -an -ss 120 -t 30 -c:v hap -format hap_q -chunks 4 -y bbb_2160p30_hapq.mov Where: -i = input file -an = no audio -ss = start stream time (seconds), you can skip this option -t = duration (seconds), you can skip this option -c:v = codec for video -format = codec specific format (can be hap, hap_q or hap_alpha) -chunks = number of chunks for multi threaded decoding -y = over-write output file without prompting, you can skip this option

bug - refused to play timeline

Hi, I missed Alex answer. There are 2 network port and each computer (production and displays). Only one port on each computer had a network cable plugged in. In my case, the production computer refused to roll any timeline. It was stuck at stop. I would click on the play button at the bottom of the timeline and I would see the button being pushed down, but it would return to a non-pressed state immediatly after the release of the mouse click / space bar. thank you for your time

bug - refused to play timeline

I've not seen WATCHOUT production crashing when too many videos had to be rendered. It usually slows down a lot and working with cues gets lagging. But the Windows protocols could show more information about the cause of your issues. Alex is pointing to an issue which usually happens when more than one NIC is active. In this case the production software will roll the timeline but the display computer will not react. In your case, the gui of the production software was blocked, wasn't it?

bug - refused to play timeline

Thank you for your answer. The stage preview was in high quality for programming. that must be why. It's unfortunate that w-o cannot handle this error and just crash instead of maybe not allowing to get there. I only found this behavior while trying to reproduce the "not responding to play" issue(Which I was not able to reproduce). windows 7, service pack1. The basic tweeks had been done. The show is done now, I don't have access the graphics card. Now about the real issue. The playback not responding. I wish I still had access to the computer to get the event log of windows. I'll see if I can find a way to get it. Anything else I should be looking for that could be helpful finding the problem? Thank you

bug - refused to play timeline

It looks a bit like a fault on your production computer. Has it been tweaked (basic tweaks)? Which OS are you running? What sort of graphic card are you using on the production computer? Pre-loading 12 timelines can put some work on the production computer since it needs to render all the content of the stage window at the same time while usually the graphic power of notebooks is not the highest. If you have a lot of displays and maybe even more than one display computer, the display engine in WATCHMAKER has to do the work of the complete cluster to render the content. A good way to handle this is to switch the stage window to show thumbnails only instead of videos in highest possible quality. Once the show is programmed it is usually not necessary to see the videos running in the stage window. This reduces the load on the production computer quite a lot. The log files do not seem to show any information about the crash on April 12th. You could maybe check the events of the Windows log files. Maybe you'll find some hint in there.

Sorry to hear about that. Did you have more than one network card on the production PC? If so, I bet it was it.

    Feature requests? - POST here

Hi Josef, Yes, and that is a really nice time-saver, but it would be even better if it were possible to change the 'advanced' properties of multiple cues (blend mode, etc) at once - similar to the way it's now possible to edit the specifications of multiple displays at once.

bug - refused to play timeline

I've been able to make the watchout production computer crash easily by preloading (pressing stop) aout 16 tasks. Is that a normal behavior? CPU was way under 50% memory was also under 50% However, I can't reproduce the not playing main timeline thing
  18. Hi, I had a show with multiple clips in the timeline. It played perfectly for 2 days. The computers been rebooted between those 2 days. At the end of day 2. Arrowhead is position before the cue. I remember that I triple, quadruple check that I was clicked on the main timeline and that I was online and that I was not on standby mode friday april 12 at 20h35 - I Press space bar - Nothing press again, maybe I didnt fully press - nothing I think, maybe the keyboard stopped working, I click with the mouse on the green arrow at the bottom of the main timeline - Nothing I move the arrowhead else where, it moves but no files play on the production computer and on the display computer. press space bar again multiple times. Try ctrl-D try going offline (I can see the status window going from online to offline) then online (I can see the status window going from offline to onine) nothing happens try offline-online again. still does play quit the application, reopen, everything works. Missed the first 25% of the show( a 4min show) My client was unhappy, and the client of my client even more. I can't even reproduce the bug. It seems very random to me. never saw any error message. The log show the same message error mxhscroll or something like that. See attachment watchout version 6.2.2 Let me know if there is something I could provide to help you help me thank you warwolf-logfile-noresponcetospacebar.zip

    Tracking 3D objects

I am using the 3D projector feature of Watchout to track some moving panels on stage. However, I am noticing that when the panels cross in front of one another Watchout does not shadow or mask the image that is intended for the up stage panel from the down stage panel. Is there a setting that I am missing or do I need to re edit the .obj file so Watchout sees these elements as solid objects? Best, Joeartist

    Trade show displays

Hi, For support in Toronto, we suggest Freeman Canada or FMAV. Contact us at [email protected] and we will be happy to give you contact information for each.
  22. For large files and when you use many outputs with high resolutions from one server the memory size of the gpu can be an issue. I doubt though that any card with 6 outputs can really give you 6 output screens with 4K and 50/60fps.

    Trade show displays

Hi! Albeit at tad (quite a bit, actually) out of the scope of the WATCHOUT forum, here is my take. I would recommend you to approach a company that specialises on building stands and trade show booths - the company you link to seem to be a company that does not build stands/fairs but will deliver printed materials to those companies who designs and build stands. Among these companies you find Freeman (https://www.freeman.com) and Worldstage (https://www.worldstage.com) and a bunch of others. They can also either support on content creation or you can reach out to https://www.pixelmosaic.com When it comes to quality of displays, you should not worry about that - you are renting them for the fair.

    Trade show displays

We are a group of IT companies and want to present my company in a fair that is going to be conducted after 2 months. It is job fair and would see the participation of a large number of students in the entire country. We like to hire a large workforce for our company. For that, we have to put up the best advertisements and displays that are visually appealing. We are thinking of hiring a trade show display company in Toronto for the job. We want visual, key phrases that would describe our company to be put up in the display. I don’t know which displays would be ideal for us but are considering a 10-foot display. What would be the cost of such a display? Is there anyone with prior experience in trade show displays? We even thought of renting a display but were doubtful about its quality and durability. Do these display last long enough? Please do comment below. Thank you.

Watchnet wake up non watch out pc on lan

    No. The network adaptor of your PC does not know it's IP address as long as the OS is not running. Therefore you need to send a "Magic Packet" as a broadcast (UDP) into the network. Usually it would look like this: FF FF FF FF FF FF 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 1C EE C9 01 52 11 0D This needs to be sent as hex code to either the IP address of the device or to the broadcast address of your network which would proabably be 192.168.100.254 in this case.

    Audio card recommendation needed

I have used the MOTU MK3 ultralight with ASIO on my Display computers using USB and didn't have issues getting 8 channels of audio out of it with Watchout 6.2. I do not have ASIO4all installed on any of my machines.

Watchnet wake up non watch out pc on lan

I'm trying to achieve that using aux timeline but I do not find the proper message to send. The mac address of the computer that I'm trying to wake up is 1C-EE-C9-01-52-11 its IP 192.168.100.101 its subnet 255.255.255.0 shouldn't it be " wolcmd 1ceec9015211 192.168.100.101 255.255.255.0 7" send by a string cue in udp on a string output with the correct network address and port ?

    Feature requests? - POST here

This is all great feedback, matkeane! Some comments: Maybe this is not exactly what you are looking for, but since 6.2 you have been able to copy tweens from one cue, and pasting them onto multiple other cues at once. This shouldn't be too difficult to add...
