  1. My experience was exactly the same as Brian's - we couldn't get multi-channel audio to work at all with V4.3 and Windows 7. We eventually used V4.3 with Windows 7 on the display (visual) machines, and, for audio, pretty vanilla XP dual cores that we purchased from Showsage a few years ago paired with a MOTU 828. That was rock solid. File format is very important - 32bit floating point WAV - if I remember correctly. We came out of Digital Performer, but also experimented with Audacity. The trick is to remember if you are using discreet multi-channel instead of surround you have to hard pan your tracks into the surround channels, then remember that the order of tracks is determined by the surround decoder. We were able to do this for some single channel effects that were coming out of speakers placed in scenic elements. We've just installed V5 on the Windows 7 machines - the visuals are great, but have not tried the audio side yet. Neither have I installed V5 on the XP machines. I'm intrigued by the news that RME interfaces work, though I hate giving up my reliable old MOTU gear (RME is about twice as expensive). We have had a few instances of Watchpoint launching more than one instance at a time - which is odd. I hope to put in some more time during the week. Jim Kellner said they were trying to sort out the audio issues - I don't know if that meant they were working on a solution or just trying to figure out the cause. Best of luck! James
  2. Actually, we built the show in 4.3 just as 5 was being released and didn't want to change midstream. But in our conversations with Jim, I don't think the issues were resolved in V5. Jim may want to weigh in on this. The show is running right now - I'm typing this backstage. James
  3. We just went through this same issue. Windows 7/Watchout/MOTU combination doesn't work. There is some issue with the drivers hooking up with Watchout and MOTU. Jim Kellner has done some investigation of this. We have gone to using older XP machines to run audio (5.1 and 6.1) with the MOTU 828MK2 and Fire wire Traveler while keeping our visual material on Windows 7 machines. That has been very stable. 4. After beating my head against the wall for two days I found out today that the drivers for the MOTU 828 do not play well with Watchout 4.3 under Windows 7. We have a six channel file in the WAV format that has always worked before with WO and MOTU. It would play fine on Windows Media Player on the display machine (all six channels), but no combination of driver and sound card preferences could get the same file to play on the same machine in Watchout. My understanding is that testing is currently underway with the drivers. I wish I would have known that two days ago. On a related note, the drivers for the MOTU firewire interface will not load unless you switch the firewire driver to the "legacy" driver. Instructions follow. Is there any notation of this on the MOTU website? No. Below are the step by step instructions on how to install the Legacy driver so you won‘t have any problems either: Click Start Then click on Control Panel Click on Device Manager - Note: If you don’t see Device Manager listed, click on View By: Category on the top right side of the Control Panel Window. Then Click on Large Icons You should now have a list of items in the Control Panel and click on Device Manager. Under the Device Manager, look down the list for IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers and Double Click on it. It should display something like - 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller - Note: If it has the word (Legacy) behind it, you are already setup and you can just exit out. Next, double click on the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller A window will popup saying 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller Properties Click on the Driver Tab Then look down in the window and click on Update Driver Then select - Browse my computer for driver software Next select - Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer It will bring up a list of drivers. Click on 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy) - NOTE: It is important that you select the one with (Legacy) after it, just like shown above. Then click Next Once it installs the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy), it will say Windows has successfully updated your driver software. Click on the Close button and exit out of all of the other windows. Then Reboot your computer.
