Blackmagic DeckLink Quad 2 input card

Recommended Posts

Hi good day!

I have a question regarding Blackmagic DeckLink Quad 2. We need 8 SDI inputs all working simultaneously and will be projected all 8 inputs at the same time on LED Videowall. Or any recommended input cards with 8 inputs simultaneously projected? Thank you...

Don't know of any other solution with four HD-SDI inputs per card.

With a proper motherboard, two BMD DeckLink Quad 2 will provide eight simultaneous inputs.

The motherboard needs to support one x16 (graphics card) and two x4 slots at the same time,

not all CPU/motherboard combinations can provide that.

Eh...one Decklink Quad 2 will give you 8 x 1080p60 3G-SDI capture inputs from one PCIe x8 slot, right?

Or does it have to be enabled specifically?

"DeckLink Quad 2 features 8 independent SDI capture and playback channels in a single card!

Fully compatible with the previous 4 channel model, this new model also allows 4 independent capture and playback channels but now also includes 4 extra channels

that developers can use for configuring the card in any combination of up to 8 capture or 8 playback channels.

This means DeckLink Quad 2 allows each of the 8 3G-SDI BNC connectors to switch direction between capture or playback in SD and HD up to 1080p60 and as a complete independent channel"

SDI Video Input

8 x bidirectional 12-bit SD/HD independantly configurable as either Input or Output

Well that is encouraging, but those cards are not available yet to the best of my knowledge.

As always, the drivers are critical to success, so until we can get our hands on them,

we will have to wait and see.

Jim,
I understand the card model is new, slated for Q4 (Q1-16 more likely) delivery, but the original question related to that card,

not the older one, hence my comment. If the case has to be resolved now, 2 current cards has to be used, of course. ;-)

It seems to be a bit different than earlier cards, in that a SDK has to be used to set all 8 inputs to active.

So it remains to be seen how useful it will be...

We ran some tests and posted a short review of the DeckLink Quad 2 here. Hope this helps.

Of course, other companies have 8-channel capture products as well: see Deltacast and AJA, but they are more expensive. BMD currently has the best price per channel. Stream Labs is also releasing an 8-channel solution this year, their price will be competitive to that of Blackmagic.

Hey All,

Has anybody had a chance to see if all 8 inputs are available on the new Quad 2?

We've had a request for the card based on the 8 channel claim. Be nice to know if Watchout can enable and actually use them

It's a rather old post, but has anyone used this card with 8 HD-SDI inputs and WATCHOUT 6.x.x so far? We have some requests for servers with 6 inputs and the price tag is quite different from using Datapath. I know that BM drivers can sometimes be a bit tricky. Does the card show up with 8 input channels out of the box or how is that set?
