4k capture

Recommended Posts

Has anyone succeeded in capturing a 4k source into Watchout.

I recently tried using a BlackMagic Decklink extreme 4k card and while I could see the input 4k HDMI signal within BM Media Express software I had no luck getting WO to see the signal.

As the live video setup in WO only shows video resolutions up to 1080p I set the drop down to other and entered 3840 x 2160 in the size box at the bottom,  I'm guessing this is not the way to do it as it didn't work.

As a test I changed the incoming source to 1080p and this displayed correctly once the correct frame size and refresh was selected.

I'm guessing WO does not understand 4k as a valid input yet.

Anyone have any input here? Excuse the pun!!

WATCHOUT understands 4k as a valid input.

Has anyone succeeded in capturing a 4k source into Watchout.

Yes. 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz (sourced from a PC) DisplayPort 1.2 via DataPath VisionSC-DP2.

Also 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz Dual Link DVI-D via DataPath VisionDVI-DL

Both options are available on WATCHMAX.

I would like to use the two 6G-SDI 10-Bit 4:2:2 signals of two BMD Micro Studio 4K cameras (30 fps) together with the
two independent DisplayPort 1.2 capture channels of the VisionSC-DP2.
Can anyone recommend suitable SDI > DP converters for this purpose?

So, if there are Datapath cards that can be used with Watchout to capture 4K why not other 4K capable capture hardware.

When using a Datapath card what settings are used in the Live video setup in Watchout to get it work? I don't remember seeing Displayport in the list of input types and there's no 3840 @60 or [email protected] resolution listed?

Why would a Datapath card work where as a Blackmagic card not work, they both capture 4k in one form or another. This is the info I'm after.

Thanks

Only reason for the variation would be the drivers or setup of the other devices,

WATCHOUT communicates with the capture device through

standard  / generic Microsoft Windows Driver Model (WDM) commands.

DataPath tends to be very good with WDM support.

Some other vendors really want the software talking to their capture cards

via their proprietary protocol and do not focus on WDM support.

In the past, BMD will simply tell you it will not work rather than attempt to

provide customer support for the idiosyncrasies of their WDM driver.

I am pretty sure I have heard of the BlackMagic Decklink Extreme 4k

working at 4k with WATCHOUT 6.

Keep hoping that entity will post help for you.

I know they struggled with it for quite some time before they got it working.

Not sure if they will share, they may consider that research to be proprietary.

We changed to Datapath after experiencing numerous problems with BMD. Couldn't find the reason and didn't get help from BM. Haven't had any problems in that area since. I know it's a vague explanation, but the facts speaks for themselves.

Best regards Christian

I found a solution. It is the Ultra 4K Tool Box from Omnitek. Although it is an analyzer, gernerator and converter,

the german dealer LOGIC media solutions sells it as a converter only version. Disadvantage: It is quite expensive.

I do not see a response to part of this, seems I missed it earlier ...

DataPath VisionSC-DP2

It  can do more than capture [email protected],

it can provide two unique streams at that res at the same time.

Maximum capture resolution
616 MPixel/ second capture bandwidth per channel. Captures up to 4096 x 2160p @ 60Hz per input

Hi Tim!

I agree. Dataton should update the available choices in the Live Video dialog box ;)

But don't worry about the input list. Just choose "RGB" or whatever. And "Other" as Video Standard and enter and the desired resolution manually. Jim's response above re. the Vision SC-DP2 is as accurate as always. Nice card.
