MSC Cues in Both Main and Aux Timelines?

Hi everyone,

I'm programming a theater show that is largely controlled by external timecode coming from our sound playback system.  There are gaps in the timecode which pull us around to different sections of the main timeline.  All of that works well.  In a few instances when timecode is suspended, we are also taking MSC cues from a GrandMA light board, also in the main timeline.  Timecode must not be running for the MSC commands to take.

There are two MSC cues that we'd like to place while timecode IS still running.  We could make these short cues auxiliary timelines, but it seems like we need to choose to have MSC Cue Lists map to either the Main Timeline or to Aux Timelines.  The GrandMA always sends a cue list number with the cue number.

Any clever ways to make this work?

Try with a 2nd Production PC/laptop connected to the same sub-net as the 1st Prodn PC.

The idea is to use the 2nd Prodn PC under MSC Control, to trigger the Aux Timelines of your 1st Prodn PC.

With this 2nd Prodn PC, set it to respond to MIDI Show Control and connect this to the GrandMA.

On this 2nd Prodn PC, open an Output Window > Add String Output > and specify the 1st Prodn PC network address, Port 3040, etc. The 1st Prodn PC must of course have TCP/IP Control enabled under Preferences > Control.

In the Output String, enter -

run "YourAuxTimelineName"$0D

Quote marks per above are required for name string.

Should work.

Hi All, Have a very similar question to this and I thought I'd resurrect an old forum thread (in addition to contacting support)

We have a theatre show where I want every cue on the main timeline to be externally triggered from MSC but I also want some additional cues to be triggered on aux. timelines (i.e. a close-shutter command). Does the Main-timeline have a cue-list ID of some sort (and can this be changed?) as it appears in ETC world everything comes with a Cue-List number. So if I map cue lists to aux. timelines it ultimately doesn't map to the main timeline (as the main show cue-lists in ETC world, still has a list number (of 1).

Do not overcomplicate it, move your main timeline cues to an auxiliary timeline named    1

If need be, use the main timeline to pre-cue (pause at 0 time) your auxiliary timelines and run that prior to show.

Hi callum,

As another option to keep it simple:

When I run off of MSC, I usually just have those utility aux timelines triggered by a play cue (tell timeline named: x) located in the main timeline.

Once I've made my open and close control cues, we can just cut and paste them wherever we need to add one.
