  1. Regarding rotation: Yes, this is a known problem that will be solved in an upcoming release. No timeframe on this yet, unfortunately. Regarding "disappointed that the resolution of each display should be the same": This is not a limitation of WATCHOUT 5, this is inherent in the graphic card setup. Also related to keep the sync between the different outputs.
  2. Are all tweaks for WATCHOUT under Windows 7 applied? Since you are using 8 GB of RAM, I suspect you are using 64-bit. Your problem then is that Windows Media Features/Windows Media Center should be turned off! Otherwise it will interfere with normal WO playback. Please see the sticky note in the forum for the guidelines on tweaking.
  3. I just repeat my question: What is the point of scrolling around/zooming in the Preview Window, on a running show. if I may ask?
  4. It's not a bug. This is the behavior since v.4. And not only the sound stops, the timeline stops. What is the point of scrolling around in the Preview Window, on a running show. if I may ask?
  5. Sorry, there is no SiteServer option for WATCHOUT 5. (yet) I have answered this question off-forum already. --------------------------------- Why not install them inside the case of the Display computer? This is the way we, and many others, do on our own Show-PC:s. Then they are very much out of the way. >In the codemeter software we found the option to run it as an license server. There is/was a SiteServer option for earlier versions, up to v.4, for amounts of 10+ licenses and with a slightly lower price per licence. This was another type of key, and the server software runs on a separate PC. Main reason for buying this version was price, especially on very big, mostly fixed, installations. >So our idea is to put all license keys on one 'save place' (i.e. USB-hub-box with kensington key) and serve each license to the display computer via network. >Is there any way to do this? No, this will not work. >In the watchout manual there is no description for using the codemeter software and license options. This is because there is no SiteServer option, at the moment, for WATCHOUT 5. It also makes less sense now, since one can run up to 6 outputs from one graphics card, on each license.
  6. There is also a little trick that one can use, if you need to turn off edge-blending on some Displays, but not others. Put one of the Displays in an overlap on a Tiered layer, there is no edge-blending between Tiers... There are some limitations to this though, there are only 10 possible Tiers in WATCHOUT 4, 20 Tiers in WATCHOUT 5.
  7. Hi all, This was a in-house custom built ultra-sound sensor, feeding WATCHOUT with serial data.
  8. Hi, Yes this looks perfectly OK. Version 3 of WATCHOUT will only support Windows XP though. Preferably with SP3 installed and QuickTime v6.4.
  9. Hi, I have never seen anyone using the capture card as an audio out device with WATCHOUT, this is not recommended. Use the motherboard audio or if that's not good enough, install a separate audio card. I would guess this will account for your delay problems. If one uses the Display or Production computer audio output, should not matter.
  10. Ok, I see... What motherboard do you use? Maybe a separete RAID-controller card is one way? Here is a link to an Adaptec pdf, although somewhat old, on the subject: http://www.adaptec.com/nr/rdonlyres/14b2fd84-f7a0-4ac5-a07a-214123ea3dd6/0/4423_sw_hwraid_10.pdf This another one re: Performance With the software based RAID0 and RAID1 performance is negligible. However, performance goes down when you use parity-based arrays and/or several arrays at the same time. The performance of a software-based array is dependent on the server CPU performance and current load. http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/raid-hardware-vs-raid-software.html
  11. Hi JJ, I would recommend hardware over software RAID, especially since almost all motherboards have it, these days. Out of curiousity: Why RAID? Performance or safety reasons? Why not use one (or two - OS/Media) fast SSD:s instead?
  12. No, have not seen anyone using this with WATCHOUT, and it has not been tested by us. Normal recommendations, tried and tested is: LIVE DATA - Datapath VisionRGB-E1 or -E2s (RGB/VGA/DVI/HDMI(data) ) http://www.datapath.co.uk/rgbcapturecards.html LIVE VIDEO - Blackmagic Design DeckLink SDI or Decklink Duo (HD and SD SDI): http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/decklink/ LIVE VIDEO - Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro (HDMI(video) + Analog video) http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/
  13. True, but these machines is to be used for other purposes, too. Also, price difference is slim.

  15. Hi all, This is what we say about WATCHOUT 5 & Windows 7, 32- or 64-bit: ———————————————————————————————————- SOFTWARE/Operating system WATCHOUT 5 supports a 64-bit OS, but is a 32-bit application, like QuickTime and many codecs/drivers used in Windows. WATCHOUT don’t need or run any faster/better with more memory than 4 GB. If you have a system with more memory than that, and want to use all of the memory for other purposes, you’ll need a 64-bit OS. We recommend 32-bit Windows 7 SP1, Basic, Home Premium or Professional versions Latest QuickTime installed, 7.7.1 or newer: http://www.apple.com...ktime/download/ ———————————————————————————————————- Some other comments: There has always been a need to tweak a PC for stable media playback, and very much more so with Windows 7, especially 64-bit. There are many things that could be done to a WATCHOUT Display PC, to make it run more reliable & stable than a off-the-shelf PC. Like always having the latest BIOS, peripheral, graphic- and capture-card drivers installed. Here are a list with guidelines on how to achieve this: http://www.dataton.c..._turned_off.png http://www.dataton.c...eatures_off.jpg http://www.dataton.c...ng_list_2.0.pdf Implement the full list on one machine, test and verify playback, and then image the others from that PC. WATCHOUT is sold, mainly, as software only, this does not mean that it will run flawlessly on any combination of hardware, software, codecs and drivers. It is up to the PC supplier/builder to test and verify a machine for stable media playback.
  16. Hi Robert, First, standard procedure in WATCHOUT, use separated audio whenever possible. ProRes is not a recommended format for stable playback. It's played back by QuickTime, and a bit out of our control, so to speak. Although many swear by it as the ultimate playback format quality-wise, there are many issues to overcome, hardware & software-wise, to make it work, especially in a Windows-environment. It's is an intermediate codec designed for editing not playback, after all. [strong]The recommended formats for stable & smooth WATCHOUT-playback is MPEG-2, WMV-9, H264 and Animation ( if Alpha is needed), in that order.[/strong] Hop this helps, Jonas Amren Dataton Support Dataton Support
  17. These cards will not work with WATCHOUT. While the capture part might be made to work, the graphics output lacks the full hardware support for DirectX/Direct3D that WATCHOUT heavily relies on. If not, it would have been a useful tool. Best Regards Jonas Amren Dataton AB
  18. Hi Michael, What kind of codec/s for video/sound, is used in the .mov-files? Your Production computer is a different setup than the Display PC:s, right? Other sound card/drivers? What kind of codec/s is used in the .mov-files? If so, that's the answer. It's always recommended to run with audio separated from the video-file, preferably .wav-format. This always work. (and sound better) Best Regards, Jonas Amren Dataton AB
  19. Hi all, Avoid downloading .dll-files from other sites, this will create other stability issues. This file is installed by WATCHOUT, in it's program folder. Following the Tweaking List guidelines (ALL of them), see below, will not create this issue, AFAIK. This problem has to be resolved in other ways. Try with this: Clean UN-install & RE-install of WATCHOUT Start with the Production computer: 1) Disconnect the WIBU-key 2) Uninstall WATCHOUT and WIBU-key 3) Restart. 4) Remove any eventual remaining WATCHOUT or WIBU-key parts on the computer 5) Install the new 4.3 again fresh. 6) Restart. 7) Connect the key again and let it install. 8) Do the same process on your Display computer/s 9) Launch your show and go online. QuickTime should be the latest, 7.6.9 or later LINKS: http://www.dataton.com/downloads/watchout/support/tweak/UAC_turned_off.png http://www.dataton.com/downloads/watchout/support/tweak/Win7_Media_features_off.jpg http://www.dataton.com/downloads/watchout/support/tweak/Windows_7_Tweaking_list_2.0.pdf Best Regards, Jonas Amren Dataton AB
  20. Hi all, This is what we say about Windows 7 & WATCHOUT: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SOFTWARE/Operating system Windows 7, requires WATCHOUT 4.2.x or later. WATCHOUT 3.4.2 or older is NOT compatible with Windows 7 or 64-bit. WATCHOUT 4.2.x supports a 64-bit OS, but is a 32-bit application, like QuickTime and most of the codecs used in Windows, and don't need or run any faster/better with more memory than 3 GB. If you have a system with more memory than that, and want to use all of the memory for other purposes, you'll need a 64-bit OS. We recommend 32-bit Windows 7 SP1, Home Basic, Home Premium or Professional versions - Windows Vista SP2 or Windows XP SP3, 32-bit - Home or Professional version can also be used Latest QuickTime installed, 7.6.9 or newer: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Some other comments: " I ran them under the XP mode/Vista modes in Win 7( 64bit) and still had issues" This is not recommended, it will only slow WATCHOUT down and create other issues. Most problems arise because Windows Media Center Features is not turned off, especially in Win7 64bit. See below for more on this. "i have uninstalled the catalyst control center and now work fine" This means that your Display PC have not been tweaked and setup properly. It's nothing magical with this, there has always been a need to tweak a PC for stable media playback, and very much more so with Windows 7, especially 64-bit. There are many things that could be done to a WATCHOUT Display PC, to make it run more reliable & stable than a off-the-shelf PC. Like always having the latest BIOS, peripheral, graphic- and capture-card drivers installed Here are a list with guidelines on how to achieve this: http://www.dataton.com/downloads/watchout/support/tweak/UAC_turned_off.png http://www.dataton.com/downloads/watchout/support/tweak/Win7_Media_features_off.jpg http://www.dataton.com/downloads/watchout/support/tweak/Windows_7_Tweaking_list_2.0.pdf I would implement the full list on one machine, test and verify playback, and then image the others from that PC. "My opinion is that running a 32bit professional sw on a 64 bit os is an emergency set, I’m waiting for a 4.4 double version ‘cause actually most of hardware providers came in with win7 display/producer pcs." That might be so, but there are a bit more to it, than that. One thing lost with WATCHOUT as a 64-bit application, will be anything that relies on on 32-bit software & drivers, QuickTime for instance... There will not be a 4.4 "double-version". That we will end up in 64-bit sometime in the future is likely, but I don't think you will not see a big performance advantage because of 64bit. WATCHOUT does not benefit from more memory than 3 GB yet, anyway. We are running Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit in all our test and demo machines, without any of your troubles. As I said above, there has always been a need to tweak a PC for stable media playback in a professional environment, and very much more so with Windows 7. Just because WATCHOUT is sold as a software only, does not mean that it will run flawless on any combination of hardware, software, codecs and drivers. It's up to the PC supplier to test and verify a machine for stable media playback. "UPDATE: I’ve got a phone call from a friend who’s expreriencing the same problem when He tries to put display windows in minimized mode to set up capture cards, even under xp…My advice was to downgrade to 4.2.2, I’m starting to think there’s a bug in 4.3 version…" See my setup answer above, there is not a bug that we know of in 4.3 in this respect. Downgrading to 4.2.2 is maybe a temporary solution, the problem is most likely found elsewhere, and has to be tracked down.
