1. No. There is a reset command, possibly that could provide what you need? Next closest you would get is two steps - power down via IP command, power up via Wake On LAN.
2. Depends on the application. Most movie decoding depends heavily on cpu and disc throughput, but you always have the option of video as thumbnails which mitigates that load. Tweens and 3D mapping and to some extent geometry correction stress gpu capabilities.
3. When wrestling with persnickety display loads one might consider hardware EDID management.
4. If you can not find one, this may assist in making one ... TN 3425 TRAX Cable I would think the bigger challenge is finding a functioning OS9 Mac for the TRAX 3.7.1 software. fyi TRAX 3 User Manual, TRAX 3.6 User Manual Addendum where are you located?
5. might have been better to use separate topics. as for the first two ... Absolutely. That is exactly what the File menu command Consolidate To does. Selected media is in use and can not be removed
6. The most common error when creating a .wob is archiving a folder containing the show. i.e. do not zip the folder containing the consolidation. Go inside the consolidated folder (where rhe .watch file is located), and zip everything from there.
7. Confirmed. It is a result of WATCHOUT’s dependence on aging underlying technology - DirectX Multi-output. WATCHOUT will need to move on to newer technology to change this, which is planned and underway. When that will come to fruition remains a mystery.
8. i suspect you are vey new to Dataton WATCHOUT. Normally, you would eliminate the Dataton Production server for automated playback. Dataton WATCHOUT Production is the tool used to assemble and edit content. Once you have assembled your content, the Production server is not needed and is not recommended for automated playback. Any and all WATCHOUT playback functions are available without the production server. Keeping an editing environment active for daily playback is a prescription for trouble. As long as the editing tool is active, the show can be changed. Remove the WATCHOUT Production editing tool, and the display servers are in read only mode and nothing can change, providing reliable, repeatable operation.
9. I have no experience with that card. No way it is going to work for output. I seriously doubt it will work for capture. WATCHOUT relies on the Microsoft DirectX standard (DirectShow) for capture card compatibility. On Aja’s web site when you search for DirectX, this comes up ...
These filters are meant to be used programmatically, and will not necessarily work with every DirectShow application without work being done to explicitly support them.
10. Link to WATCHOUT 6.7 Users Guide https://cdn.dataton.com/Files-PDF-etc/userguides/Dataton_WATCHOUT_Users_Guide.pdf
11. Yes. The additional step is to create a startup script with the instructions to load the show and to start running. This is documented in the WATCHOUT 6.7 Users Guide. The available instructions are described in Appendix C. This chapter also includes instructions (File Based Control) on how to create a startup script with a sample script to demonstrate the procedure you request.
12. No. WATCHOUT 6 is still optimized for Windows 10.
13. Not recommended. WATCHOUT 5 was discontinued/ superseded before Windows 10 existed. So WATCHOUT 5 had never been tested with a Windows version that did not exist and therefore could not be tested. WATCHOUT 6 is required on systems running Windows 10.
14. Those are a way of accomplishing it. Just keep in mind the movement is 100% dependent on the MiDI fader, even if the timeline is stopped, a cue relying on that MiDI input will allow the fader to control movement. There was an experimental feature that would permit speed up or slowdown of an entire timeline by +-20%. That is not referenced to any variable, input or output. So it would not be effected by a MIDI input. It would require a control system to send a decimal value 0.8 - 1.2. but that may or may not be enough adjustment for what you seek.
15. TRAX was not used to create the show played back from a WATCHPAX. The show was created in WATCHOUT Production. The show was made specifically for the resolution of the projector it was intended for. If you want to output it at different / higher resolution, it would need adjustments to the programming.
16. No, not exactly, but the function you seek exists. A TCP message with current time position included in it can be streamed using the subscription function of the getStatus command. The messages contain a lot more than timeline time position, so you will need to parse out the time value.
17. That would be a great question to ask Focusrite. Are you asking about a 3368S WATCHPAX 60S or one of the other three WATCHPAX 60 models?
18. Yes. WATCHOUT includes IP control. It is documented in the WATCHOUT User Guide, Appendix C. Commonly, auxiliary timelines are a method of “recalling presets”. Once the connection is established, simple commands provide the function you request. Auxiliary timelines are user nameable, so a simple command like run “Preset 1” would do what you need.
19. Yes. Virtual Displays are not intended to be re-entrant. Dataton does not support the use of virtual displays within virtual displays. That said, there are people who have done so successfully. But it is unsupported by Dataton. Compositions on the other hand are supported in this manner. In many cases, nested compositions provide the function being achieved with nested virtual displays.
20. Removing and reloading the files are unlikely to have any effect on the issue you describe. Changing a still image file type is unlikely to help as well. Note, WATCHOUT does not display the original file during playback. All still images are converted to an internal format and that is used for display. so regardless of file type, all still image formats will perform exactly the same for the same original.
21. I repeat …
What version of WATCHOUT? What type of WATCHOUT Display server?
WATCHOUT Player is still not specific enough. i.e. there is a known incompatibility between old Dataton WATCHPAX (tn 3360) and Dataton WATCHPAX 2 (tn 3362) and the newest updates of WATCHOUT (v6.6.7+). It is remedied by a factory update to the old unit’s disc image. From WATCHOUT 6.7 Release Notes ... Known issues and limitations Before updating Dataton WATCHPAX (product number: 3360 ) or WATCHPAX 2 (product number: 3362) media players to WATCHOUT version 6.6.7 or 6.7, please ensure that the unit’s hardware image version is version r23 or higher for WATCHPAX, and r33 or higher for WATCHPAX 2. If the image version is older, the unit will stop working and a “license key not found” error will be shown after the WATCHOUT version is updated. For more information on how to update the hardware image, please contact your local partner or Dataton.
22. What version of WATCHOUT? What type of WATCHOUT Display server? DNS server error is a very unusual error message from WATCHOUT, do you have a picture or screenshot of the message?
23. WATCHOUT is not generating that message, Windows is sending that message. When Windows generates an error, WATCHOUT passes it along so that WATCHOUT may remain in the foreground. (Otherwise WATCHOUT would need to step aside and allow Windows to take control). This is done to attempt to keep WATCHOUT running past operating system errors. Anyway … https://knowledge.dataton.com/knowledge/interpretation/translation-of-error-codes-in-watchout
24. and thank you for discovering the problem and solution and sharing it with the forum.
