  1. I would convert the MP3 file to wav files for stable playback and eliminating any issues if you switch out server computers.
  2. Hi Uwe, I had owned a Surface 3 for about a week, but returned it because the small screen size. It was working well with WO, but difficult to navigate the tools and timeline. It's still primarily a touchscreen interface, which is great for apps and more challenging for full programs. I still prefer 17" laptops as production computers as they travel well and have the most flexibility in my opinion. I purchased my Surface 3 at a Microsoft store and they Had no issues with me trying the computer and returning it. That might be a way for you to give it a try without full commitment. Cheers
  3. I agree the new virtual displays in WO 6 would be very helpful with different resolution screens. As far as the blur effect, it does not exist as a tween and is usually created using an outside program like AE. I have achieved the effect by tacking one image thT is sharply focused putting it on the bottom layer in WO. Then adding a second image on the top layer that has been blurred in Photoshop. Then put a 1/2 second opacity tween on the top layer (out of focus image) and the overall effect should look like it's going out of focus.
  4. Hi Jonathan, great question. I have not yet used WO 6 and Windows 10 together, but I plan on upgrading a few machines to do some testing. I'll share my results when I get them. Please do the same if you test as well.
  5. Hi AMS, can you describe the lag that is occurring? Such as the the video and audio goes out of sync or one video losses sync with another. I have had issues where WO seems to not be very responsive only to find out that I had accidentally opened the same file underneath the first version. I think they were both fighting for control over the computer resources. Also have had more video then the control computer can handle and by turning it to, video as thumbnails it seemed to behave better. Can you repeat the issue again and again?
  6. Thanks for the heads up. I really like the new website too.
  7. UPDATE: It looks like Echo has discontinued all of their FireWire products to work on Ethernet AVB (audio video bridging) and audio testing. It looks like there are some Echo AudioFire12's still on the market ($600 USD) and Echo has updated their drivers to Windows 8, but after that it looks like no support. Bummer!
  8. We've been successfully using ECHO Audiofire8's for 4 years on Windows 7 machines. I don't know if they are making 8 channel boxes anymore.
  9. Welcome, Mike is correct, WO does not create conflicted copies, Dropbox does. You also have the right idea in being able to work in two places using Dropbox. You just can't have the file open at the same time or DB will created a conflicted copy and if you open the conflicted copy, then WO assumes its a new file and creates a new cache file, which will be the exact name of the file conflicted. You can test how this works by opening and saving word document, then leave it open at your office and return to your other work station and open the same word file, then save that. DB will not over write your first file it will create a conflicted file instead. I believe this is to aliviate multiple users from overwriting each other's files. We have used the DB workflow for years with the understanding that with every file whether it's a WO file or not, DB will create a conflicted copy of any file that is opened and saved in two places . So before you leave your office simply shut the WO program off and you can work with the same file at home without this issue.
  10. I think I may have installed version 1.0 of the scheduler. I'm having her uninstall and re-install the newest version.
  11. We are using the WO Systems Manager - Scheduler Application. We also installed the remote application and that worked fine. I wanted something simple for my client to use. I think Watchnet might confuse her as she barely knows Watchout. The computer has never been online, so I don't think it is a virus and she said she hasn't installed any new software, but I will check next time I'm out. Is there a new version of the WO system manager?
  12. Has anyone incountered the issue with the WO scheduler opening up to a blank screen. There is no error, just a white window. My client says it was working a week ago then it just stopped. I've reloaded the software a couple of times without change. I feel like there is something I'm missing.
  13. Hi Curtis, I have been on many event sites over the years and had conversations about video codecs with clients, and operators of playback systems. I think video codecs can be one of the most misinterpreted and misunderstood media we work with. Mainly because there are so many different varieties and applications. I will include myself in the people who often get them wrong and I'm always learning. I do know there is a very big difference between an editing codec (Apple ProRes) and a playback codec. I have been explained this onsite scenario several times by operators of different playback systems; 1. They ask for the original video from the client as a Prores codec. 2. The client or editor is thrilled that they can deliver and playback what they consider in their realm as the highest quality video. 3. The playback operator asks for some time to ingest the video into the system to which they change the codec to a playback codec like h264 or equivalent that their machines will handle well. 4. The client never asks what codec is on the screen. It's not very transparent, but what they've told me is that there are so many codecs, and many users just don't know the difference, so they stopped having that conversation and just do the extra work to get the codec into a playback format. I don't know if it's the same for all systems, but most of the systems are really not that proprietary and have many of the same hardware and playback restriction that we do in WO. I would not playback a ProRes file in WO anymore than I would choose to edit a video using a playback codec. They are two different animals. It's approppriate to put the best most reliable codec into your system for the best overall outcome. It serves the client best, but it's up to you how you want to discuss it with them. Some are open to understanding and some are not. I'm sorry you lost a project based on codec issues, but hopefully this will help next time.
  14. That's perfect. I'll try 6 computers and see where I'm at after that.
  15. That seems like a reasonable answer. I have client that wants to add 12 to 14 network cameras running at the same time captured to a video wall, which will use 3 WO display computers. I don't want to purchase that many cameras for a test so I was hoping that there was a threshold that people usually hit after, say four cameras on a single computer, where the images start to fail based on average or above average hardware. Based on your answer there is a potential threshold for hardware, but not the WO software. Thanks Mike
  16. What is the maximum number of individual network cameras that can be sent through a WO display computer at the same time?
  17. I'm having similar issues with a D-Link camera. I'm know the IP address, but can't find a reference in documentation for the URI.
  18. I just got a Leap Motion tracking device. https://www.leapmotion.com/ The best way to describe this device is to say it is similar to a Kinect (body gestures) only it is more precise (hand gestures) and uses infrared rather then a high def camera to follow tracking. I am trying to get it to talk to WATCHOUT to see what interactivity I can simulate with hand gestures. I haven't had a lot of luck yet, but I was curious if anyone is familiar and has experimented with it yet. Thanks David Johnson Mind Opera, Inc.
  19. George, This is awesome. Thanks for putting the work in. I just watched the video and I will download it for practical work soon. DJ
  20. Thanks for your thorough explaination. I still have so much to learn.
  21. Hi Jonas, I am running a similar scenario only with 10 projectors overlapping on one seamless screen. What would the benefit be for splitting every video output into 10 separate videos (this is the first time I've heard this when using multi-headed video cards) if my computers are running 3 or 4 video channels out? Wouldn't it be far less labor intensive for me to split the video into 3 pieces - Left 3574x720, Center 4720x720 and Right 3574x720. I using the h264 .mp4 file. I am also noticing that the that h264 .mp4 file is limited to 4096 even though the recommended codecs document shows it as any width. I'm rendering the files directly from After Effects. Just trying to figure out the most stable way to create and playback loops. Thanks David
  22. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for because my challenge was more complex, but it did work. Thanks for the help.
  23. Is it possible to have a looping auxiliary timeline and from the main timeline ask it to fade out not just stop. When I did this the loop would just pop of and was a little disconcerting. I wasn't able to find a command to ask the AL to fade, just stop or pause. Anyone have an answer to this? Thanks David
