Drop Shadow on Videos

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Are there any suggestions for the best way to add a drop shadow to a video layer or live input? I've had a search through the manual and forums and can only find reference to drop shadows on text.

Thanks

Andrew

I've been playing around with generating the shadow in GIMP and then importing the exported .png file as a new layer behind the videos. It does achieve what I want but perhaps there is a way to do this within Watchout?

I have created a custom frame that has a dropshadow built in (.png format) and I apply this over the video layer. The frame has a HD 16x9 hole for video to show through and a subtle inner shadow. Works great!! We are prepping for a show on the 22nd of Sept, and will see if I can post pics afterwards.

I usually keep a soft edge black square in my utility folder to throw behind an image if I need drop shadow. I can scale it to the size of the image, reposition it right quick, then make it the length of the content.

Right, that the way to run video on a windows with drop shadow.

But what I assumed from agfrancis previous post was to make a video with alpha channel and dynamic drop shadow.

If that was the case, I would duplicate the layer, move the bottom layer down and to the side slightly, tint the whole thing black, & and turn the opacity down. There's a functional drop shadow.
