Member Popular Post Steve Farris Posted August 29 Member Popular Post Report Share Posted August 29 Long time Watchout user (since version 1), new version 7 user. I'm trying to figure out a method, and really the best method, to move a programmed show to a new computer. I'm working on a show in the studio, complete with runners and a director / asset manager computer. It works great, I'm loving the new version. Since I will be traveling to a show site, I wanted to test how I take the show to a new machine that hasn't been on my network. I'm totally failing. I copied my show file and the assets to a portable drive (the media folder that is in the same directory as the show file). I went to my new machine, copied the files, and opened the show file. I told it not to take over director, then chose the local machine as asset manager. I instantly got a message that "135 files are missing from asset manager". After some digging, I realized that the asset manager was referencing an old show. So I deleted the old show and its directory. Then I created a new show and imported the assets for the show I am trying to move. I let it process all the assets. Then I closed Producer, deleted the test show file, and rebooted. I open the show I'm trying to move. Once again, as soon as I point asset manager to the local machine I get an error that all my assets are missing. However, the asset manager now has all my assets. I can put them on the timeline and use them. It's just that all my old cues point to non-existent media. It looks like even thought the asset manager now recognizes all my files, the cues still point to the old chunk files on the machine I am no longer connected to. So what is the proper way to move a show? It doesn't seem reasonable to expect that I will always have the machine I programmed it on! Do I need to move the .wo directory? I'm hoping to solve this before I'm in another state! Steve
Member Popular Post keitht Posted September 2 Member Popular Post Report Share Posted September 2 Hi Steve. This works for me. Close v7 Manager and Producer on destination computer. Copy the entire asset manager folder (and the .Watch file) to the destination computer. Start Producer on destination. Change Working Directory to the folder you copied. If you dont see the assets, exit producer and manager (from taskbar) and restart. You should see the assets in asset mgr. Load the .Watch file. Select TAKE OVER DIRECTOR. ** None of this is ideal IMO. There needs to be a better way. Keith
