I got this and at the moment use it with two 1920 x 1080 JVC DLA projectors:

Int Core i7-3930K (price/performance ratio compared to i7 4770)

Asus P9X79

Samsung SSD  512GB 520/540 840Pro

2 St D3 8GB 1600-11

AMD 4GB D5 X FirePro W7000

BMD DeckLink Studio 2

I hope it will do its task for about three years.

Try the Asus P87 WS (WS=WorkStation). It supports usage of Dual x16 Ports without sharing Lanes!

So you can use Graphiccard and Capturecard, both with 16 lanes connnection.

And it´s a little bit cheaper, you don´t have to pay for the "Gamers and Overclockers extra Charge"

I used this Board a lot of times with Socket 1155 and never had any problems!

In theory, this is true.

But the processor is still the bottleneck in this, as there are only 16 native PCIe 3.0-lanes available.

X79 has 40 native PCIe 2.0-lanes as comparison.

These motherboards use a special type of chip,  to work around the 16 PCIe-lane limitation

By using a technology called PCI Express-switching or multiplexing, used earlier on some P55/X58-based motherboards.

This chip is the PEX 8747, designed by the company PLX (PLX PEX 8747 or a PLX 8747).

It offers PCI Express switching capability, giving motherboard manufacturers 32 PCIe 3.0 lanes to play with.

(see AnandTech article here for a more detailed discussion )

It's mainly used to create SLI (multiple) graphic card setups.

How well this will work, simultaneously, with capture cards for inputs, has to be verified, so be sure to test in advance.

It might or might not introduce a delay, depending on how the motherboard manufacturer implements it.

Socket 1155 = ASUS P8Z77WS

Socket 1150 = ASUS Z87-WS

Hi Jonas,

you are right.

We tested the P8Z77WS together with FirePro-Cards and the Asus 7970 DC2T together with Deltacast and Datapath Grabber-Cards with a realtime 3d-Live Software.

We havn´t had more delay in comparison to an Asus P9X79 WS with 3930K or a Supermicro c602 with E5-1650 (+ / - 1 Frame)
