1. As many of you know, I would go to great lengths to avoid using watchmaker / WATCHOUT Production in daily operation. Running in an editing mode when it is not needed is unnecessary risk IMO.

I would consider running in cluster mode. Instead of running production software, use that pc and license to run watchpoint / WATCHOUT Display. Logical choice for cluster master is this former production, now audio server. Only challenge then is performing the production -> display transfer on the same PC. A second license for that PC would be needed temporarily to pull that off.

I haven't tried it myself but you might be able to send

load ""      (to unload the current show, might send an error that there is no show with an empty name) …

that should return an error.

There is a specific command to unload the current show.

unload

with no arguments. This command requires authenticate 2 and only affects the one computer it is sent too.

Hi all,

Is there any way to remotely trigger a relaunch of Watchout display software on a display machine? The only way I know to do it is accessing the computer directly (or through VPN). I'm looking to try to add it to a control panel.

Running Watchout 6.7.

No.

There is a reset command, possibly that could provide what you need?

Next closest you would get is two steps - power down via IP command, power up via Wake On LAN.

4. Depends on the application.

Most movie decoding depends heavily on cpu and disc throughput, but you always have the option of video as thumbnails which mitigates that load.

Tweens and 3D mapping and to some extent geometry correction stress gpu capabilities.

5. might have been better to use separate topics. as for the first two ...

I have a couple of questions:

Is there a way to migrate a show from a Win. 7 machine to a Win. 10 with a different SSD/HDD configuration, without having to relink all files?

Absolutely. That is exactly what the File menu command Consolidate To does.

Second

I have files in Media window that I cannot find in Main Timeline, nested in any compositions nor in Task window, however when I try to remove/delete it prompts that it is in use? Using a “reverse” Ctrl+F would be handy to find these elusive “in use” bugs.

Selected media is in use and can not be removed

Hi all, sorry to resurrect a very old thread but can anyone confirm whether this is still the case, you can only output from 1x GPU with watch out.

Many Thanks

Confirmed. It is a result of WATCHOUT’s dependence on aging underlying technology - DirectX Multi-output. WATCHOUT will need to move on to newer technology to change this, which is planned and underway. When that will come to fruition remains a mystery.

7.

i suspect you are vey new to Dataton WATCHOUT. Normally, you would eliminate the Dataton Production server for automated playback.

Dataton WATCHOUT Production is the tool used to assemble and edit content. Once you have assembled your content, the Production server is not needed and is not recommended for automated playback. Any and all WATCHOUT playback functions are available without the production server. Keeping an editing environment active for daily playback is a prescription for trouble. As long as the editing tool is active, the show can be changed. Remove the WATCHOUT Production editing tool, and the display servers are in read only mode and nothing can change, providing reliable, repeatable operation.

Hi,

I was wondering if there is anyone who knowes if the Aja Corvid 44 I/O card works with Wathout?

I have no experience with that card. No way it is going to work for output. I seriously doubt it will work for capture. WATCHOUT relies on the Microsoft DirectX standard (DirectShow) for capture card compatibility. On Aja’s web site when you search for DirectX, this comes up ...
These filters are meant to be used programmatically, and will not necessarily work with every DirectShow application without work being done to explicitly support them.
hi dear

I want to make the show run automatically.
I registered it in the Windows Startup Program and checked until Watchout appeared.

But I wonder if it will be possible to play right here.
Assuming there is no operator.

I looked through the manual countless times and couldn't figure out where to put the parameter variable.

Of course, if the time code is received from the outside, it will be executed immediately.
But I would like to know if it is possible to run it alone.

thanks regards

Yes.

The additional step is to create a startup script with the instructions to load the show and to start running.

This is documented in the WATCHOUT 6.7 Users Guide. The available instructions are described in Appendix C. This chapter also includes instructions (File Based Control) on how to create a startup script with a sample script to demonstrate the procedure you request.

10. Not recommended. WATCHOUT 5 was discontinued/ superseded before Windows 10 existed. So WATCHOUT 5 had never been tested with a Windows version that did not exist and therefore could not be tested.

WATCHOUT 6 is required on systems running Windows 10.

Do you mean manually modify the X position?

If yes:

For example:
Point A(1000) to Point B(1800)

midi fader name : input

formula should be like this:

(Start point) + (Distance between out & start point) * midi fader value

1000 + 800 * input

Hope this helps.

Those are a way of accomplishing it. Just keep in mind the movement is 100% dependent on the MiDI fader, even if the timeline is stopped, a cue relying on that MiDI input will allow  the fader to control movement.

There was an experimental feature that would permit speed up or slowdown of an entire timeline by +-20%. That is not referenced to any variable, input or output. So it would not be effected by a MIDI input. It would require a control system to send a decimal value 0.8 - 1.2. but that may or may not be enough adjustment for what you seek.

12. TRAX was not used to create the show played back from a WATCHPAX. The show was created in WATCHOUT Production.

The show was made specifically for the resolution of the projector it was intended for. If you want to output it at different / higher resolution, it would need adjustments to the programming.

Hello everyone,

does anyone know if its possible to send a UDP message to an ipadress which contains the exact time position when timeline1 is running for example.

kind regards,

No, not exactly, but the function  you seek exists. A TCP message with current time position included in it can be streamed using the subscription function of the getStatus command. The messages contain a lot more than timeline time position, so you will need to parse out the time value.

14. Yes. WATCHOUT includes IP control. It is documented in the WATCHOUT User Guide, Appendix C.

Commonly, auxiliary timelines are a method of “recalling presets”. Once the connection is established, simple commands provide the function you request. Auxiliary timelines are user nameable, so a simple command like

run “Preset 1”

would do what you need.

…. Is there a limitation on virtual display feeding other virtual displays? …

Yes. Virtual Displays are not intended to be re-entrant. Dataton does not support the use of virtual displays within virtual displays.

That said, there are people who have done so successfully. But it is unsupported by Dataton.

Compositions on the other hand are supported in this manner. In many cases, nested compositions provide the function being achieved with nested virtual displays.
