aventiq
I have a watchout 5 setup with a FirePro W600 card (6 outputs card) only using 3. 8Gb RAM installed and solid state hard disk. When I playback a simple animation of a image (5084x1080px) moving up and down, the displays are out of sync and stuttering. Does anybody known what could be the reason for this. If you need more information, please ask. With kind regards, Leon
Moderator jfk Posted July 9, 2015 Moderator Report Share Posted July 9, 2015 You will find multiple recommendations against using the AMD FirePro W600 in this forum. We all knew the W600 is way underpowered for WATCHOUT use, I am only a little surprised it has difficulty with such a simple task as a positioning move on three outputs. Once they start stuttering, out of synch is part of that too.
aventiq
Thanx for your reply! After posting my question i've been reading the forum a little bit more and discovered that there indeed are some issues with the W600 card in combination with Watchout. But why does Dataton put this card on the semi-pro recommendations list if it's underpowered for Watchout. They have to mentioned it. We need watchout to design and program shows and not only to play some video files.
Moderator jfk Posted July 9, 2015 Moderator Report Share Posted July 9, 2015 Thanx for your reply! After posting my question i've been reading the forum a little bit more and discovered that there indeed are some issues with the W600 card in combination with Watchout. But why does Dataton put this card on the semi-pro recommendations list if it's underpowered for Watchout. This forum software will not let me break up quotes for inline response (anymore) RESPONSE: Me thinks you are seeing things that are not there. The word recommend only appears in one place: We recommend to run WATCHOUT under a 64-bit OS So you may be reading to much into the list. In all other cases, it is indicated these are starting points for testing. They are NOT RECOMMENDATIONS. The graphics card list is prefaced by: Provided as is, and intended as a starting point for a Display computer build. So as a starting point, you test from there. Clearly your choice has failed the test for your content. As you likely observed perusing the forum posts on this topic, there are those who found this card met their specific needs. And I am pretty sure each time that happens, someone else warns about the limited scope of that card. When the content requirements are clearly known, you may be able to economize by choosing hardware suited to specific tasks. That is why the list is offered as a potential starting point. They have to mentioned it. We need watchout to design and program shows and not only to play some video files. Understood. WATCHMAX now removes that guess work for you. As you have correctly deduced, the W600 is ok for simple video playback only use. And there are some other simple, highly restricted uses for it as well. Did you not notice that was not the only solution offered? Did you not find it suspicious that card is way less expensive than the other recommendations for six outputs? Now you know why.
