ViPeRePiV
Can someone clarify the Enhancement/Bug Fix for: Increased reliability of Datapath VisionRGB capture cardsI have been trying to track down a problem with a recent set of upgrades. See previous post by J Kelley http://dataton.com/forum/topic/320-datapath-visionrgb-e1s-crashes-computer-blue-screen-hardware-error/page__hl__datapath__fromsearch__1 Original machine was running perfect for over 2 years: Watchout 4.3 Windows XP Intel Core2Quad 160GB HDD 4GB RAM Radeon 4550 Blackmagic Intensity Pro Same machine with following upgrades:Watchout 5.1 Windows 7 32-bit Intel Core2Quad (same as before) 120GB SSD 4GB RAM (same as before) Radeon 4550 (same as before) Datapath VisionRGB-e1s Minor issues seemingly connected to the Datapath VisionRGB-e1s have been:Live video inputs not activiating (seems like Datapath card is frozen, machine requires hard reboot) Live video inputs not syncing (video inputs are being switched through router, increase time before input shown seems to fix) Major issues seemingly connected to the Datapath VisionRGB-e1s have been:BSOD - NMI - Memory Parity Error Total freeze of display computer requiring hard reboot Have tried latest Datapath drivers as well as multiple computers/Datapath cards. Have also tried many other troubleshooting methods short of ritual sacrifice. Hoping this fixes it, Doug Whelan NMR Inc.
Jonas Dannert
Hi Doug, First of all, I would suspect the graphics card, ATI HD4550 is too old for WATCHOUT 5 use I think. HD6850-70/6950-70/7850-70/7950-70 series of cards will help you here. Please see: http://dataton.com/forum/topic/93-wo5-multi-output/ http://dataton.com/forum/topic/269-watchout-5-technical-notes/ Second, the hardware, meaning processor, motherboard etc does also need to be upgraded. You've sort of "half"-upgraded to WATCHOUT 5/Win7... The old hardware and Windows 7 does NOT always play nice together, even with upgraded BIOS, newest drivers etc. I see many more problems here, than on a new rig, built from scratch. /jonas
ViPeRePiV
Jonas, Aside from the hardware recommendations. Back to my initial question. Can someone clarify the Enhancement/Bug Fix for: Increased reliability of Datapath VisionRGB capture cardsWhat exactly was done to increase reliability, what problems were encountered that caused this fix to be implemented? -Doug
Jonas Dannert
Changes on Datapaths side, in the way one accesses the cards. There is a difference also between the old, analog card VisionRGB-PRO2, and the newer ones. http://www.datapath.co.uk/products/video-capture-cards/visionrgb-pro2 That said, we do NOT see these issues very often, if at all. It seems to me like a driver conflict in Windows. /jonas
Neil Stratton
Hi Doug-if it helps at all my spec below runs great with the E1S cards. Have had no issues with them, and certainly not any BSOD. Now running WO 5.2 and all seems fine. Only issue I ever have is the Vision software has to be reinstalled after a clone to a new machine. It does not migrate-presumably due to Vision not recognising the new card. Hope this helps. Neil
ViPeRePiV
Thanks, waiting for downtime to further test the current setup. Most likely will not have an answer of what is exactly wrong until next week. Currently I have 10 Display and 1 Production computers that are working perfect. Show is very smooth and loads super fast with the SSD's. In fact, it is so fast, my Display computers are ready before my network switch is ready when both are turned on at the same time. The problem is currently down to 1 more Display computer that is still absolutely necessary, as well as 4 spare Display computers that are having this issue. Thanks again for the info, will post when i find the solution. -Doug
ViPeRePiV
Latest update: The issue seems to be a faulty PCIe riser cable. We have custom built machines that used to have Blackmagic Intensity Pro cards that sucessfully used a different PCIe riser cable that while it works with the Datapath card, it is not the right size. The baffling part has been that out of 16 machines only 4-5 have exhibited issues with the riser cables. All the cables are sequential in their Serial Numbers and are visibly no different from each other. -Doug
