  1. The hours of the training sessions will be announced shortly. But basically we will offer Beginners and Advanced sessions in English and a combination in Spanish all three days of the show. The venue will be The Marriott, just across the street (Paradise Road) from the Convention center.

    Stay tuned.

    Best regards,

    Fredrik S

    Hi!

We have seen this problem on some machines (not all). We will research and get back to you ASAP.

    Best regards,

    Fredrik S

  3. The session in Sweden will be held in English. As it is a pilot we will not announce it on our website but you are most welcome. We need your confirmation though.

Garbling my name - not a problem. I have been through worse ;-)

    Best regards,

    Fredrik S

  4. Here is an update on the WATCHOUT Academy training program.

Pilot session in Beijing April 9-10

Pilot session in Sweden May 9-10

Basic and Advanced session in conjunction with Infocomm Las Vegas June 13-15 (program will be announced shortly)

After these first sessions, we will roll out worldwide.

    Best regards,

    Fredrik S

  5. Another question (sorry, I can't test now), is it possible to run different frame rates in the same project/timeline ? I mean, one video at 24P, one 30P, and other video at 60P in same timeline ? Displays set to 60.

Yes, you can. That was one the points with my response.

    Best regards,

    Fredrik S

  6. Dear Ulisses!

Here is my take on this. It will hopefully make you less nervous :-)

    • The frame rate of the video in WATCHOUT is important and below 50&60 fps you will undoubtedly see "stutter" in fast motion and pans etc.

    • More important though is the video content itself. If your video does not have any super critical motion normal 25&30 (even 24) fps video will look just fine.

    • If you do not have 50-60 "real" frames, i.e. 50 or 60 fps progressive video, your only option to achieve a perceived smoother playback is to apply something that is usually referred to as "frame blending" in post production (in AfterEffects or similar).

    • Personally I would never set WATCHOUT to anything else but 50 or 60 fps (with the same setting on the graphic card). You can follow Mike's advise above to choose a refresh rate with an even multiple (50 for 25 fps and 60 for 30 fps etc) but please bear in mind that not all display devices are happy with 50 Hz. Also you should check the frame rate of the other video files in your show. So even if your video is 24, 25, 29,97 or 30 or higher, I would always set WATCHOUT to either 50 or 60 fps.

So here is the conclusion and quick advise for you.

    1) Set WATCHOUT and graphic card to 60 or 50 depending o what display you have

    2) Roll your 24 fps video and have a look Happy? All good then!

    3) Not happy? Most likely you have to go back to post and try with frame blending or similar technique

    Best regards,

    Fredrik S

  7. Ehh... Neil, I can think of one VERY good reason to put Guy's video clips in a single show and that is: AUXILIARY TIMELINES. This is one of the more important WATCHOUT features in recent years. Originally introduced in WATCHOUT version 4, it allows multiple timelines to be triggered independently. For those of you that are not familiar with the concept, please study the WATCHOUT USER'S GUIDE (starting on page 200) or watch this introduction video: Timelines - Using Multiple Timelines

  8. I hope I don't add more confusion to the discussion, but this could be worth noting. When you adjust the geometry grid in WATCHOUT (in realtime) it is not "saved" on the display computer until you make an "update". The complete "show file" is saved on the Production computer after you have saved it (of course).

    Best regards,

    Fredrik S

  9. Absolutely, what you should study is the last chapter of the WATCHOUT USER'S GUIDE (Display Cluster protocol). Apart from all the standard commands for various control functions, you should pay some extra attention to: How to control a "Generic Input" with the "SetInput" command. (Page 187 and 246)

    Good luck. Keep us posted.

    Best regards,

    Fredrik S

  10. With the risk of stating the obvious. If you can speak TCP/IP with WATCHOUT, you can do pretty much anything. Trigger timelines, control media effects in realtime etc.

I would welcome any Director and Lingo fellows out there to chime in as well.

    Best regards,

    Fredrik S
