  1. Uhmmm, this has nothing to do with alpha channel though, does it? A signal on dvi or whatever can't contain an alpha channel as it will just output black (or white). In your ascender (or encore, spII, spyder) you will have to adjust the signal to be used as a key signal for the camera to show. No sense in using an Animation codec, a simple h264 will do of course. Used this soooo many times.

  2. Hi Frank,

Whats the issue? Budget? I have two Datapath E1S's for you which I currently don't use anymore as I moved to E2S's. I could make a reasonable price for you. You know where to find me, welcome for a cup of coffee sometime too ;-)

  3. Hi there, first "feature request" isn't a feature request, as it is a current feature actually. (One can name the string output cue which shows in the second line of the cue).

Second one is a feature request but as I don't need it, won't be posting it in the famous post. (Very curious about future release of wo6 though, anxious to see which requests are taken in).

And yes, with "loopable" I mean exactly what you state, a stop cue right after the action cue.

    ;-)

  4. Though if you expand the size of the timeline and you name the cue, you have a clear reference of what the cue is about to perform. (resulting in a cue stating first the outputname and then the actual action).

Would be nice if either you have output + action in one line i.s.o. two, or first the action and then the outputname (once completed in it's box.)

Though indeed, the way to go is make an aux (loopable) for shut on and one for shut off. Put it under a midi-keyboards note and with one push of the button (or a reference in the used timeline for your sequence) you're good to go time after time.

  5. May I suggest a third and effective option for either alpha channel or keying?

Alpha channel uses lots of bandwidth as you both indicate, and keying often leaves you with ugly borders or sometimes other artifacts.

A perfect way to solve this is rendering a white alpha channel-output of the movie from your NLE. Use this as mask above your bandwidth-effective h264 or mpg2 content and you're set. Works like a charm with pixel perfect results incl semi-transparency whilst just basically doubling the bandwidth.

  6.

even mp4 files dose not stop(pause) where you want them to

If you ensure that in export setting a keyframe is set to each frame, your mp4 will pause exactly where you want it to! By default, most encoders set a keyframe each 75 frames or so. If you then pause, you will see it jump to the nearest keyframe in the file. (Which you don't want of course).

    Just a tip.

  7. Installed on your prod machine or displaymachine or both?

I assume you checked your video in settings of display machine using remote access ctrl-shift-A / video in?

BMD tends to put a device called blackmagic capture or so as device 1 as default and the correct decklink capture as device 2. Or just try setting In Device 2 (although you only have one capturecard.

  8. Hi Ademar,

In addition to Mike's comment = about the 3D settings in WO-preferences, you only need this if you intend to create depth of objects (using the Z-axis) in Watchout yourself. If not, just separate the L+R signals using tiers to send the L-signal to 1 projector and the R-signal to the other.

Indeed, Infitec highly recommended for larger groups = no special projection surface needed, and wider viewing angle without ghosting artifacts.

  9. I have a tip though : you only have to create all notes / controllers once. If you have created, named and linked all buttons and faders, just select all inputs, copy them and paste in a txt file.

Name this file "korg nano2" for instance.

Next show you create and use this controller, just open txt file, select all and copy, open input windows, paste and you have all your inputs from this device back! Ideal timesaver IMHO.

  10. Have you tried or don't you have a pc available?

But you can copy / paste cue's / timeline sections or even complete tasks in to other projects (basically anything you would be able to copy/paste inside a project you van paste into another, as far as i know (or into text files and paste it's content at a later date at your convenience).

You won't actually copy the linked content, just the link to it.

  11. Hey guys,

Anyone out there able to help me out with the following issues?

    1) how to control shutter / lamp status of Barco hdf w26. Also have some panasonic ptdz21k's in project, they work fine, but the instructions by panasonic are good to handle. The documentation of barco is too complicated for me. I don't speak hex/binary/bytes. Just need mentioned controls.... And perhaps any specifics with barco as with pana? (At pana remove password i.e.).

    2) any tips / experience with controlling WO via MSC from a GrandMA? Use midi all the time but together with LD with little/no experience with sending MSC we'll have to sort this out. Any do's or don't's? What type of command to run specific aux or cue /run specific time within that aux?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  12. Rbeddig's story sound familiar. Frank, I would never use your chosen solution for such a project using to display pc's (just a running loop in an aux).

But last week I noticed exactly the same between production PC and display PC. Just had one movie in free run on one display running during setup / rehearsal. After 30 minutes there was a gap of at least 2 seconds between preview on stage area and the actual running display PC. Incredible difference after such short time.

  13. Why not use PPT with the background keyed out or additive blendmode? Works like a charm and makes things much less complicated... (That is if you don't like complexity).

(Personally, we normally do awards with animated graphics for categories / winners and for animating stills I prefer the animation possibilities of WO over those in ppt or keynote. Also, you normally only have to do a good animation once and then replace the content in its copies... )

  14. 40 mtrs would allow cat ext to be a valid option.

No experience with dp extenders nor the bmd dvi-sdi ext but i know that this would A) limit you to video-resolution if staying on sdi OR B) would mean you'd need the converter to go back to dvi (allowing you to run pc resolution over sdi as does barcolink for example) and i heard this back-converter introduces an extra delay. If that's not an issue it would be an option but much more expensive as a good cat dvi or dp extender i'd reckon...

  15. Dear all,

We need to acquire some signal extender.

    Either  DVI extender or DisplayPort.

This will be used to connect a ATI Firepro V7800 to a Samsung video wall the display is equipped with displayPort input and DVI.

At the moment I'm using:  firepro -> displayport to DVI converter -> DVI  Parrot -> Gefen DVI Over 1 CAT6 -> monitor

Its not the first or second time that I get a bank screen, the signal fail for about 1 second and comes back again.

    All machines are working 24/24

Do you have any good experience with extenders ?

What brand, model do you recommend ?

...fiber, SDI, CAT, backmagic, gefen, extron ...

    Thanks in advance.

    Alex

Hi Alex, you forget to share the distance you have to bridge. IMO this is quite important in establishing the tool of choice.

Issue you describe sound familiar, had it with certain Extron devices. Extron finally concluded after extensive testing and measuring that the type of cat6 we used generated too much signal loss (in our case being "rental-proof" cables. We now only use fiber, but again, if you don't need the distance, cat6 might do.  Could it be the distance / signal loss causing the issue in your case?

  16. Hi. Familiar "issue". Or actually, a common phenomenon.

Your capturecard signal needs some time to activate.

Solution: either have it active all the time with opacity set to 0 or do this on your camera cue: preload your cue by running into the cue with opacity set to 0 (so run to for instance 0.2 sec into cue). Pause at least two seconds or so to give the signal time to activate and then run your cue as you describe.

Let us know how this works out for you.

  17. As far as I know, Dante is a multichannel standard intended for use as digital multicore, just like MADI, cobranet or aes50. (With the added benefit it works on standard ip networks). But as are those, it's not common as a source format, which is still mostly just analog (xlr/trs (un)balanced) or digital (aes/ebu). Never ran into a client stating it wanted to deliver Dante to my sound system ;-) So basically you would always need a (expensive) breakout box to supply the signals to the venue you're working in. (And there and then you could always make the necessary patching). Or in the rare situation the venue has a Dante interface in the mixer, you can make the patch there, so why would WO accommodate the patching in the software? ;-)

Anyway, don't think it's a good idea to implement a virtual soundcard in a WO system. Obvious network issues aside. But that's my personal opinion of course! Could you elaborate on the specific benefits? Or is it more like a "we do it because we can" kind of thing? ;-)

  18. Hi Francesco,

Not sure why you are getting a message about slow response, but I can say something about the ppt through network: yes, it's safe, but imho: I wouldn't use it because if you have slick animations in your ppt, those won't come out nicely. But for simple and static ppt it's sufficient. I would always recommend the use of a proper capturecard.

Let us know which way you went and how it worked out for you!

Anyone a remark about the 'slow' bit?
