Member Alex Ramos Posted November 10, 2018 Member Report Share Posted November 10, 2018 Ive been using .m2v for years on my mpeg2 media with no probrems. Now the need for metadata arise, is my understanding that .m2v can only store the video stream. Transport stream is the solution to pack video and data, so Im using .ts Is there any disadvantage for WO .m2v vs .ts ?
Moderator jfk Posted November 11, 2018 Moderator Report Share Posted November 11, 2018 Not sure why, but the recommendations that have existed for years indicate Transport Streams are not recommended. reference: WATCHOUT - Codecs for stable WATCHOUT playback - 2012.pdf ..... - use elementary stream - use separate audio (.wav)
zackboyd
I've actually used(against recommendations) mpeg2 Transport stream for years(.m2t). I've found it performs better when layering lots of clips/playing back multiple clips simultaneously. I have no empirical data for this, just what I've experienced. I find I have to pre-load cues/handle clips more 'carefully' when dealing with program stream.
Member Alex Ramos Posted November 11, 2018 Author Member Report Share Posted November 11, 2018 Thanks, I've been following that guide ever since, but I wonder if anyone can elaborate more the reason not to use .ts if used only for video.
