Lawrence
Hi, We're having a new project with Watchout5 and would like to understand which is better config. I have one 6 projectors screen and are planning to run 6xWXGA with 3 display computers, each with dual display output. Here are my choices: 1) Dell XPS 9100, win7 64-bit, i7-960, intel X58, 3x2GB DDR3-1333 SDRAM, 2x 1TB SATA RAID 0, AMD Radeon HD 6970 2GB 2) Dell XPS 8300, win7 64-bit, i7-2600, intel H67, 6GB DDR3-1333 SDRAM, 2x 1TB SATA RAID 0, AMD Radeon HD 6970 2GB 3) HP Z210 CMT, win7 64-bit, i7-2600, intel PCH C206, 3x2GB DDR3-1333 nECC RAM, 2x 1TB SATA RAID 0, Mid 3D-AMD FirePro V5900 2GB Which will be giving better performance? As a mid range professional graphics card, does FirePro V5900 gain any advantage over Radeon card? Thanks in advance! ViPeRePiV
1st choice - 2) Dell XPS 8300, win7 64-bit, i7-2600, intel H67, 6GB DDR3-1333 SDRAM, 2x 1TB SATA RAID 0, AMD Radeon HD 6970 2GB - i7-2600 newer/higher processor compared to i7-960 - Radeon HD 6970 has more performance than FirePro V5900 2nd choice - 3) HP Z210 CMT, win7 64-bit, i7-2600, intel PCH C206, 3x2GB DDR3-1333 nECC RAM, 2x 1TB SATA RAID 0, Mid 3D-AMD FirePro V5900 2GB - i7-2600 newer/higher processor compared to i7-960 - FirePro V5900 video card is still a good card FirePro cards are basically the same as Radeon HD cards, main difference is Radeon HD drivers are geared towards games and can change performance from version to version more easily, whereas the FirePro card drivers are usually more stable on a regular basis. Otherwise, my final choice would be a combination of the two. HP Z210 CMT system with Radeon HD 6970 card. Nothing against Dell, I like HP's build quality better. -doug
Moderator jfk Posted November 23, 2011 Moderator Report Share Posted November 23, 2011 Lawrence's comments about FirePro cards are valid for the FirePro V5900. The AMD / ATi FirePro GPU series become interesting higher up the model range. The v7800 (3), v7900 (4), v8750 (3), v8800 (4) or v9800 (6) when combined with the ATI FirePro S400 Synchronization Module option card. All those models provide both Eyefinity and enhanced synch support and as single card solutions, are compatible with WATCHOUT. Compared to any other offering, the compatible FirePro / s400 combination provides greatly enhanced synchronization of the outputs, even when it is just one multi-headed computer. Very pricey, but when you are feeding processors instead of displays, specially with 0 pixel butts and demanding content, the difference may make or break the results.
