Moderator jfk Posted November 7, 2018 Moderator Report Share Posted November 7, 2018 Customer is encoding a video for WATCHOUT. Playback will be solely one 1920x1080@29.97p file, which, even with ProRes codec, should be well within the capabilities of the Show Sage Show*Server used for playback. Customer's question: The encoding tools available offer ProRes Proxy, ProRes LT, ProRes Standard, and ProRes HD - which would be the best choice for WATCHOUT encoding? Can anyone assist with answering this? Note: the customer does not have the server in his possession yet, the movie is being prepared for pre-sale testing in Show Sage's shop. dchristo
ProRes 422HQ has been working good for me on Show Sage machines, encoded with Adobe Media Encoder. --D
Erik Rönnqvist
Proxy is lowest quality, really intended for preview purposes only. LT is better, Standard even better, and HD best quality (of the 4:2:2 formats, that is). For editing, you should really use the highest quality, but for playback purposes Standard should be good enough in almost all cases. I doubt there are many people that would be able to spot a difference between Standard and HD in a playback blind test, given that the videos are encoded using the same encoder, and that the screens are identical. /Erik

wiesemann
We had success with ProRes (standard) 25fps, 6480x1080. That was an earlier WO version 6.
