Can I sample RGB values from a location on the video file to run RGB lights via DMX?

For a particular building projection I use lights to supplement areas outside the projection area. I usually sit down a 1am in sub zero temperatures and manually move each R, G and B value in the timeline. I don’t get content until the last minute so it would be easier to create a area outside the mask to sample from and get the content creators to set the colours then get those values to drive the DMX.

can I get RGB. Values sampled in real time from video to drive DMX ?

I dont know anything about the new version of Watchout.

But you might want to check the community edition of Ventuz.

Hi, I don't think there is currently a way to do this in Watchout (maybe there will be some surprises in the next version?). You would need to use another software package - TouchDesigner, Notch, Resolume? - that can do the pixel sampling & DMX output, and send a video signal to that from your Watchout player.

The initial release of WATCHOUT 7 will not include video over DNX/ArtNet. Pretty small market, so it did not make the first pass. This function is planned in a future release. DMX/ArtNet is quickly overloaded by the high pixel counts of modern video, the applications tend to be relatively low resolution.

In the meantime there are boxes with video in and ArtNet output to accomodate these applications. The Schnick-Schnack-Systems Pixel-Gate is an example of such a device, I am sure there are others. I suspect the cost of one of those boxes paired with the cost of a WATCHOUT server is still competitive with other server solutions.
