  1. And all tweaks according to our guidelines, is performed?

    http://www.dataton.c...ng_list_2.0.pdf

Also, perform a clean UN-install & RE-install of WATCHOUT as below:

    Clean UN-install & RE-install of WATCHOUT

    Start with the Production computer:

    1) Disconnect the WIBU-key or CodeMeter-key

    2) Uninstall WATCHOUT and WIBU-key/CodeMeter

    3) Restart.

    4) Remove any eventual remaining WATCHOUT or WIBU-key/CodeMeter parts on the computer

    5) Install the new WATCHOUT again fresh.

    6) Restart.

    7) Connect the key again and let it install.

    8) Do the same process on your Display computer/s

    9) Launch your show and go online.

QuickTime should be the latest, 7.7.1 or later

  2. "How does the demand for Windows 7 64-bit, influence the the stability in Watchout?"

Blackmagic Design recommends this for ALL their products.

This does NOT imply it will not work reliably in 32-bit.

They are not actively testing on 32-bit Windows any longer, though.

"Does it really need a 4 GB of system memory when in Windows 7 32-bit?"

    With 1-2 cards, NO.

    With 3 or more, YES.

"Does a 32-bit system will have any affect?"

    With 1-2 cards, NO.

  3. I recommend that you update to WATCHOUT 5.1, released 17 October.

    From the Relase Notes:

    Dataton WATCHOUT version 5.1

This version of Dataton WATCHOUT™ provides a few minor enhancements and a couple of bug fixes.

    Enhancements

    • The Move command includes the Z axis.
    • The Consolidate command allows you to include all media files, if desired, and not just those actively used in the show.
    • A Control cue can explicitly target the Main Timeline.
    • Control of Inputs (DMX, MIDI and Generic) is now managed by the display software when production computer isn't online.
    • MIDI Show Control is now handled by the display software when production computer isn't online.
    BUG FIXES
    • Large images or images extending outside the display don't appear if the display is rotated.
    • When using multiple outputs from one display computer, video file playback on other displays than the first sometimes doesn't start smoothly.
    • On the Production computer the sound output stops playing if the icon is not visible in the stage window.
    • Export of a timeline to a movie file may not complete under some circumstances.
    • Stage Tiers not working correctly.
    • Didn't accept expressions such as: (in3 * 500) - 250
    • Running a single display computer without a network connected (e.g., from serial control or a command file) failed opening the show.
    • Creating audio waveforms from long audio files or MP3 files could crash.
    • Audio waveform may not be displayed properly immediately after opening a show.
    • Audio waveform display failed for WAVE files with floating point data.
    • Switching shows without re-starting the production software could cause tween tracks controlled by inputs to behave erratic, flipping back and forth.
    • The path to any Preview movie wasn't adjusted properly when transferring the media to another show by copy/paste of cues.
    • Playback of multi-channel Wave files wasn't always accurately synchronized.
    • Watchdog could time out while caching numerous files during an Online or Update operation, thus making the whole operation fail.

    INSTALLATION

Version 5.1 comes with an updated license key driver. Therefore, you must install this version manually on each computer, as WATCHOUT's automatic remote update feature can't update the license key driver.

  4. Has anyone had experience with using an active Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter then running the DVI signal through an extender using Cat 5e? I assume if the extender is HDCP compliant then it should work, but I am always cautious of dropping in adapters. I've just seen to many black screens in my day. Any tips or relevant experience out there?

Should I just try to find a DisplayPort extender? Do they exist?

HDCP has nothing to do with this.

Theoretically this should work, but avoid extenders that draw power from the DVI connector,

because the ACTIVE DisplayPort adapters use it already, choose separately powered ones instead.

And as always, test, test, test. Your mileage may vary...

Regarding a DisplayPort extender, isn't the question if a large screen display device/projector with DisplayPort input exists?

  5. Are the Capture cards required for the Display Computers?

And if you do not need to manipulate the content, do you need them for the Production Computer?

No, they are not required, just optional.

But we use them as part in our shows for demonstration purposes.

Mainly one uses them in Display computers, but if you want a Live preview of what you capture,

in the Stage Window, instead of the standard placeholder, you can use them in the Production computer as well.

Set this in Preferences of the Production software.

  6. When it comes to media formats in WATCHOUT, one of the basic rules is that WATCHOUT will play pretty much anything.

This is still one of the fundamental features of the product and something we are very proud of.

Having said that, it is however our strong advise to stick with a limited number of familiar media formats and encoding settings,

especially if you are working with motion video.

Sometimes, not always, but sometimes, what is recommended for other digital media, video or web applications is NOT what works best for WATCHOUT.

    WATCHOUT media format summary:

PSD for text and any graphic

MPEG2 for any video content including pre-split proxies

QuickTime Animation for alpha channeled video

This is exactly what we (Dataton) recommend currently and if you stick to this list(and there are very few reasons not to actually), you will have less issues.

  7. I would say, no it should not be a big problem, as long as you get them to work, individually.

Keep in mind that there might be differences in how drivers for different hardware,

work in 32- vs 64-bit. A bit outside of our control, though.

And always use the latest BIOS, drivers etc. Especially on older hardware.

Latest BIOS for that motherboard, P5E3 Pro, is 0505 BIOS, from 2009.11.27

  8. Hi Adam,

In order to have any idea and make an educated guess to what your problems might be,

you need to supply more info, on all computers A, B and C:

    - Hardware specs, processor, HDD or SSD, graphics card etc?

    - OS versions?

    - driver versions for graphics etc?

Content info, file size in pixels and what codec and bitrate, that is used etc

There is no released version 5.1, yet. Download file is still 5.0.

  9. My strategy would be like this:

    1) make a complete copy of your WO4 show, work on this.

    2) open and save that show in WO5.

    3) never consolidate into the same folder

    4) if you want save (for safety) during programming, do that

into separete folders, named with "backup/date/time" without

changing the Show-file name. Then it's real easy to drop the backup

file into the original folder, without triggering a complete new download.
