  1. Hi Martin,

Please see my inline comments below.

    >The EDID could be the problem, actually there is some generic device subscribed at the graphic control panel card.

Meaning that no EDID sent to the OS/graphics driver.

    >Just i wonder that the same HW was working before with win XP.

Because the Graphic subsystem of Windows 7/Vista, is fundamentally different than Windows XP.

    >Even the booting of the system is not going out to the screen with extender.

Latest BIOS and Graphics drivers? This is essential when having issues.

Since WATCHOUT 4/5 heavily relies on the graphics card for hardware acceleration of DirectX/Direct3D,

this is increasingly important, as is the graphics card itself.

    >In the context of EDID, i connected the WO Display PC output to a matrix switcher, from where one output in going to an monitor preview and the other to the extender.

    >Im getting the output on the preview monitor but not on the projector with connected extender, there is no logic and I’m stuck now.

The logic is pretty straightforward, to me, the monitor sends EDID info, your extender does not.

And your matrix switcher do not have any EDID management built-in?

    >Tomorrow I’m running event and i do not know if should i buy a new grafic card or the EDID manager, to be shore it will work.

Since this is a hardware problem, outside of our knowledge, we can't help much here.

I would try the above (BIOS/drivers) and buy both if that don't work.

    >I did not upgrade any HW, to win7.

I meant upgrading your OS, on your old hardware platform.

Which can work, but is a risk. There likely will be issues to work out.

    >Actually all my HW is compatible with the new system

In theory, yes, but your hardware is from well before Windows Windows 7,

meaning anomalies can occur, that there is no cure for.

    > and i thing also that it does not have to do anything with setup of watchout software,

    >but I’m running the baby on it :)

Yes, I understand that, but as WATCHOUT is sold as software only, this does not mean

that it will run flawlessly, on any given combination of hardware, software, codecs and drivers.

That said, this is most likely an issue with your hardware VGA extender. Solvable with an EDID manager in the loop.

    >Displays PC configuration is:

    >Win7 Ultimate 64bit,

    >Intel Xeon E5420 @2.5GHz,

    >4GB of RAM,

    >Nvidia Quadro FX 1700,

    >SATA Raid 1 with two Seagates @7200rpm

  2. Hi Martin,

this has nothing to do with WATCHOUT and everything to do with EDID, graphic card drivers and setup.

Your Cat5 VGA extender is probably not giving any EDID info back to the graphics card ie no picture.

It might also be an old graphics card driver creating the issue.

Have you upgraded older hardware to Windows 7?

An EDID manager like DVI Parrot or Gefen DVI Detective is always handy in these cases.

  3. David:

Most, but not all, of these things are already in the Tweak list...

There is a reason for why we (and I) argue for implementing the FULL list, not parts of it.

It will be updated accordingly, when confirmed to be general issues.

There has been a lot of good advice/ideas in this thread, that can and had to be tested before this happens.

And this is not a general issue, as you implied, AFAIK. Some are affected, others are not.

We have not have one reproducible case yet, to nail this down with.

I would say that most issues we've seen, comes from setups (WO3/WO4), with older hardware, upgraded to Windows 7.

Since Windows 7 is fundamentally different than WindowsXP, this is probably not the best idea...

Also, I DID point you to change out the switch and use a straight cable between Production and Display in order to isolate your issues.

Re: corporate networks: This has always been an issue, because the needs of a large network administrator is very different from

the needs of a straight WATCHOUT playback setup. If possible, avoid connect through those. Linksys is a division of Cisco, btw.

Using Windows 7 compliant hardware is of course recommended, especially when having trouble. It's not that expensive either.

On a more general note, I think upgrading older hardware to Windows 7 is generally NOT an good idea, it will open a can of worms of it's own...

I think it's better to start new, primarily because the technologies WATCHOUT relies on, is better supported.

    Lloyd:

Staying with WindowsXP will only partly help, we are not actively testing WATCHOUT 5 on WXP, and know for a fact

that Multi-Output does not function reliably and there are other issues too, relying on a un-supported OS (Microsoft) is

probably just going to be worse over time. For full functionality with WATCHOUT 5, you'll need Windows 7.

64-bit will not give you any big advantages, except in some special cases, since both WATCHOUT and QuickTime is 32-bit.

Postpone an upgrade until Windows 8 arrives could also take some time, knowing their track-record on time-schedules....

Windows 8 is anyway heavily based on Windows 7 codebase, so learning/trying now, is not wasted time, I think.

  4. Hi all, there seem to be at least some 6 output cards available:

    VisionTek Radeon HD 6870 Eyefinity6 2GB GDDR5

    http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814129184

Needs 6 of these type of ACTIVE adapters for DVI

    http://www.newegg.co...N82E16815309008

    ASUS EAH6970 DCII/2DI4S/2GD5 Radeon HD 6970 2GB

    http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814121430

    ASUS EAH6950 DCII/2DI4S/2GD5 Radeon HD 6950 2GB

    http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814121431

Both of these needs 4 of these type of ACTIVE adapters for DVI

    http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814999032

    For more professional use:

ATI FirePro V9800 4GB GDDDR% Workstation Video Card

  5. Hi Ralph,

Use Stage Position and Size. in the Display preferences

    (P145 WO4 manual/P151 WO5 manual)

Determines the position and dimension of the display in the Stage Window.

Normally, the dimension here matches the physical resolution of the display.

You can override this by deselecting “Width and Height same as Display Resolution”, allowing you to enter different values.

Doing so will make WATCHOUT scale the image to match the resolution.

  6. Hi Ralph,

    >1 Is it possible to manually cue the video side of the ‘conversation’ at particular points in the script?

    Yes

    >Is that an Aux timeline?

Yes, it could be. Could be done through the Main Timeline as well, depending on the script of course

    >2 If this is the case, is it possible to have more than one Aux Timeline?

Yes, as many as you need.

    >3 How quick is it to change timelines ?

Instantly, more or less. They could be externally triggered via a USB MIDI-keybord, for example

    >I will have three sections to the show which all need to run independently with some additional ‘Downtime’ content between the sections.

    Seems perfectly achievable with WATCHOUT.

  7. Hi JJ,

Please see my inline comments below.

I know that this card is considered to be on the “tried and tested” list, but I would like some additional feedback from the user base. I’m considering picking one up for testing, and I am especially intrigued by the dual-stream capability.

    - I’m assuming that W/O can recognize each SDI input as an independent live capture input?

Yes, the Windows drivers treats this as two Decklink SDI cards, which it is, in one slot.

Other notes of feedback I am interested in from users :-

    - measured delay (in frames)?

As the other Decklink cards, approx. 2.2 frames, I believe.

    - quality of de-interlacing? Can this be set (board level) on the card so that W/O doesn’t have to do any software de-interlacing? If not, can anyone comment on the quality of de-interlacing in W/O? My previous experiences have proven poor when compared to solid hardware de-interlacing from scalars like Barco Image Pro, etc…--

I don't think it does. But the reason for us to use it is for the progressive capabilities, eg 720/60p

    - does the card keep up in W/O when using 2 streams @ 60fps? any motion lag or dropped frames?

I don't think so. But the limit for 60fps progressive is 1280x720.

Only Decklink HD Extreme supports 1080/60p (3G SDI)

    - general quality of card?

    Very good.

  8. Hi all,

This has been confirmed as a problem, will be rectified in an upcoming release.

It appears to affect only sound out from the Production software, the Display software still plays sound as normal.

Just for clarification, if an Sound icon is moved outside the Display, in the Stage Window, but are still visible.

there will be no sound played by the Display software, but it is still played by the Production software.

  9. Ok, this is then a support issue.

File this at support@dataton.com, not on the forum.

Since we have been running a lot of old version 4 shows, with .wav-files, withouth ANY of these issues,

you describe, you have to supply us with a show where these issues can be reproduceable.

Also, all specs on your computer setup, if tweaked or not, is essential in order to try to help you.

  10. Are all tweaks for WATCHOUT under Windows 7 applied?

Since you are using 8 GB of RAM, I suspect you are using 64-bit.

Your problem then is that Windows Media Features/Windows Media Center should be turned off!

Otherwise it will interfere with normal WO playback.

Please see the sticky note in the forum for the guidelines on tweaking.

  11. Sorry, there is no SiteServer option for WATCHOUT 5. (yet)

I have answered this question off-forum already.

    ---------------------------------

Why not install them inside the case of the Display computer? This is the way we, and many others, do on our own Show-PC:s.

Then they are very much out of the way.

    >In the codemeter software we found the option to run it as an license server.

There is/was a SiteServer option for earlier versions, up to v.4, for amounts of 10+ licenses and with a slightly lower price per licence.

This was another type of key, and the server software runs on a separate PC. Main reason for buying this version was price,

especially on very big, mostly fixed, installations.

    >So our idea is to put all license keys on one 'save place' (i.e. USB-hub-box with kensington key) and serve each license to the display computer via network.

    >Is there any way to do this?

    No, this will not work.

    >In the watchout manual there is no description for using the codemeter software and license options.

This is because there is no SiteServer option, at the moment, for WATCHOUT 5.

It also makes less sense now, since one can run up to 6 outputs from one graphics card, on each license.

  12. There is also a little trick that one can use, if you need to turn off edge-blending on some Displays, but not others.

Put one of the Displays in an overlap on a Tiered layer, there is no edge-blending between Tiers...

There are some limitations to this though, there are only 10 possible Tiers in WATCHOUT 4, 20 Tiers in WATCHOUT 5.
