TheYouth
Hello, is it possible to install Dante Virtual Soundcard on the Watchpax as an Audio Output? Thanks!
Moderator jfk Posted February 16, 2017 Moderator Report Share Posted February 16, 2017 Not on a WATCHPAX, it is a locked OS, so you can not install anything on it. And if you unlocked it and installed something, then it would no longer really be a WATCHPAX, would it.
Member mindopera Posted February 16, 2017 Member Report Share Posted February 16, 2017 What kind of testing and results have been done on open OS Watchout servers with Dante? Any issues with running Dante software with WO? I'm getting asked for this on an upcoming show and would like to know if it is a possible stable audio solution. Thanks
Moderator jfk Posted February 16, 2017 Moderator Report Share Posted February 16, 2017 This June 2013 thread indicates it would work, but stereo only. Dante Virtual sound card - Watchout Support?
Dataton Partner RBeddig Posted February 17, 2017 Dataton Partner Report Share Posted February 17, 2017 I have tried Dante virtual sound card software on one of our servers and it worked with 8 channels. I also heard from some clients that they are using Dante with WATCHOUT.
Myngus
Hi RBeddig, do you mean you've been using 8 channels of Dante on Watchout servers, or some other type of server? I need to get 8 channels out of WO V6.1.4 and route it over Mediornet, so it would be very handy to have it on a network bus rather than 8 analog channels. any other suggestions would be appreciated! thanks
Dataton Partner RBeddig Posted September 1, 2017 Dataton Partner Report Share Posted September 1, 2017 You can install Dante Virtual Soundcard on a WATCHOUT server if the server is not locked as is the case with WATCHMAX / WATCHPAX. I tried it on our own builds with WATCHOUT 6.1.6 and it worked fine. Dante supports 8 channels in WDM mode which you would need in this case. MHeuberger
As the last post is from 2017 I would heat up the thread again. Is ist still "not" possible to install Dante Virtual Card on a watchpax 60 ? Our configuration will be 1 production Server and 3 Watchpax 60. The customer asked to do all audio output in Dante. Kind regards, Martin
Moderator jfk Posted January 25, 2022 Moderator Report Share Posted January 25, 2022 Although nothing has changed as it relates to WATCHPAX, the comments about other servers under a much older version are out of date. In 2017 WATCHOUT still used WDM for audio. Since then WATCHOUT switched to ASIO for sound interface and up to 24 channels can be sent via Dante Virtual Sound Card on custom servers. Dataton Partner RBeddig Posted January 25, 2022 Dataton Partner Report Share Posted January 25, 2022 Since the C drive on all WATCHPAX servers is write-protected, I would suggest to install Dante DVS on the production computer instead. If this is running in your show anyway, it should be no issue to do it this way.
MHeuberger
Thank you Rainer, we will try to run Dante at the production server. This would not be our first choice, because the production server might change during setup... Kind regards, Martin
