  1. Benjamin,

    Please see my comments below:

Im putting together my new systems, and currently use the w7100 with EVGA DP hubs to get 6 sync'd outs.

Have been seeing a lot of threads about the Asus HD 7970 and it is drastically cheaper.

I was hoping someone could share some insight on the 7970, does it support sync'd outputs?

No, it does not support a S400 framelock/genlock card.

any red flags to know about?

Apart from not being available anymore?

    - a heavy card, makes it a bit risky in a touring PC.

    - occupying three PCIe-slots, making for less add-on cards

my systems are road systems that travel for Large Scale A/V staging and reliability is a must.

If so, then AMD FirePro W7100 or for 6 outputs, the AMD FirePro W9100, is the obvious choice.

  2. Do the videowall really need native input per Display as you describe? (ie 1920x1080, I presume?)

This will be seriously heavy on the content creation side, and also playback hardware will have to be very fast.

As Thomas describes, and mentioned many times here, WATCHOUT will only output through one graphics card per Display computer/License.

    WATCHOUT Multi-output:

WATCHOUT Multi-output ONLY works with one graphics card.
That one graphics card may have up to six (6) outputs, provided the graphics card vendor
includes driver support for multiple outputs under DirectX/Direct3D in 3D mode.
All outputs MUST be the same resolution AND refresh rate.

Normally one uses the monitors internal split-function to divide a 1920x1080 signal over a 2x2 or 3x3 screen setup.

    Is this a possibility here?

  3. For the Barco/Projectiondesign F32 Series there's two Warp&Blend-boxes, if needed, WB1080/WB2560.

As mentioned, not too cheap...they can do some nifty stuff though. Primarily used for simulaton & VR.

Jacques solution above was what I would've done, too.

The Barco (Folsom) ScreenSHAPER, that's a really old one, those were the days, I'm old too   :

  4. Torbjørn,

I do know that the RLM-W projectors can only handle one concurrent connection ie not able to handle both

a Projector Toolset connection AND an external connection as WATCHOUT, simultaneously.

So it's probably either or in this case, I'm afraid.

  5. I would suggest that you use EDID-managers on your outputs. It's always is/has been recommended for multi-output.

This has less to do with your hardware or WATCHOUT, than with your connection to the display/s in question.

With EDID-managers on all outputs, you'll know for sure that the graphics card sees a signal, on all outputs.

  6. Here are two suggestions:

    1) Projectionist, for iOS/Android, can create nice testpatterns as part of it's arsenal:

        http://www.neodarque.com/Projectionist/About

    2) WATCHOUT Display Builder, for MacOSX/Windows, a REALLY nice application from Matthew Keane:

  7. 2 or 3 same type cards is OK

2 different types with same driver (E2S and RGBPRO) - unfortunately not

Anyway, Datapath are really great with great support.

I'm really confused with the Blackmagic... We've received the info for the unsupported motherboards or USB 3 chipset after we bought the cards

    NNinja,

    Re: Datapath

Again, VisionRGB-E/AV/HD4 and VisionRGB PRO/PRO-2 does NOT share the same driver.

    http://www.datapath.co.uk/company/partnerships/item/86-Vision-stand-alone-application,-drivers-and-SDK

    VisionRGB PRO/PRO-2 needs a PCI-slot, VisionRGB-E/AV/HD4 are PCIe-based.

For VisionRGB PRO/PRO-2 one need a separate driver: http://www.datapath.co.uk/downloads/rgbprodownload.htm

This might account for some of your issues.

    Dataton has run both 3 x VisionRGB-E2s + Vision SDI2 (8 inputs) simultaneously and

    4 x VisionHD4 (16 inputs) simultaneously, at Full HD.

This should work on a properly configured system, on proper hardware.

    Re: Blackmagic

It's unfortunately a well known fact that Blackmagic cards are picky on which hardware it runs properly on.

That has been discussed here many times, here for example:

  8. First of all - one thing regarding the Datapath cards - they are definitely better, that's correct. But I am not sure that you can fit 2 Datapath capture cards (SDI2 and E2S for example) in the same machine - we couldnt fit E2S and RGBPRO since they are using the same driver and it's official info from Datapath.. haven't really tried with SDI & E2S...

The confusion stems from the fact that the newer series Vision E/AV and Vision RGBPRO does NOT share the same driver.

Vision RGBPRO is EOL:ed and an old analog only card.

To my knowledge, there's no issues fitting multiple cards (2+) in one PC, as long as the motherboard can handle it.

  9. Having components on a recommended spec, does not free the user or his/her supplier from checking that the motherboard of choice, can accommodate the chosen setup and its components properly...

That said, this is what I've found on Supermicro's website:

    http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/xeon/c600/x10sra.cfm

    Expansion Slots line_yellow.gif

    PCI-Express

    • 4x PCI-E 3.0 x16 slots (runs at 16/16/NA/8 or 16/8/8/8)
    • 2x PCI-E 2.0 x1 (in x4) slots

PCI-E slot #1 supports (x4) and slot #4 (x16) is disabled when an Intel Core i7-5820K is installed

    Which slot are you using?
