  1. Sounds strange, this normally works on a properly configured DisplayPC.

Specs on this content? Size in pixels? Format?

    What effects?

"display machine is is a windows 7 PC and I've done tweaking."

    All tweaking or some?

If this isn't working for you, please send a small example show that exhibits this behavior to support@dataton.com.

  2. Brent,

This is not a video content problem in my view, but a projector alignment/calibration/setup issue.

This has been discussed here at the Forum many times.

    http://forum.dataton.com/topic/703-edge-blending-with-more-than-two-projectors/

    http://forum.dataton.com/topic/590-getting-the-projector-brightness-right/

To me, an old projectionist, this is simple:

    - use the same make and model of projectors, preferably DLP over LCD, as a general rule (there ARE some good LCD ones, I know...)

    - reset to factory settings.

    - check that your signal is 1:1 onto the panel of the projector, ie do not "overshoot"

    - avoid high brightness/dynamic modes, opt for natural/video/cinema instead.

    - use a digital connection, DVI/HDMI) over analog (VGA)

    - if possible/necessary, color balance them.

    - it might be wise to avoid totally white or black parts of a show.

I never touch the edge-blending curve at installation.

  3. By starting the Display software, instead of the Production software.

Both are always installed, but only the Production software shortcut is put on the desktop.

One can create a shortcut to the Display software by navigate to:

    Start/Programs/All Programs/WATCHOUT 5/right-click on the WATCHOUT Display/Send to/Desktop as shortcut.

  4. As I answered in support@dataton.com:

    Danny,

I think you're missing the part of P140 in the WATCHOUT 5.2 Users Guide:

    Pre-split
This option applies to video media only. Check this if you have pre-split a large
movie, as described on page 42. In this case, the resulting files must be placed
in a folder specified in the File/Folder field. This folder must contain one file
per display intersecting the movie, each file named after its target display.
For example, assume you have a large video called “LargeMovie.mpg” that
intersects two displays named “Display 1” and “Display 2”. You would then
pre-split the video into two files. Name those files “Display 1.mpg” and
“Display 2.mpg” and put them in a folder named “LargeMovie”. Finally,
specify that folder in the File/Folder field of the video proxy.

    IMPORTANT:
Always append the proper file extension to the name of either
the video files or the folder containing the pre-split files.
This is needed to ensure that the correct video playback mechanism is used.
By default, Windows may not display filename extensions. To show file extensions,
choose “Folder Options” on the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click the
View tab, and uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types”.

    Preview
Allows you to choose a scaled down version of a large pre-split video for
preview purposes. If not specified, the thumbnail image will be shown instead
    in the Stage window preview.

ie for the Video Proxy to work properly, your pre-splitted video files 1-9, needs to be put into a folder,
and be named EXACTLY as each intended Display.

    Best Regards,
    Dataton Support/jonas
  5. video resolution is 4096 x 2160.

one more question... we drive this projector with two x Display Port each for half of the 4K to reach full 4K resolution. on nVidia we setup 2x1 Mosaic so windows sees one display in 4K resolution. my question is how watchout would treat it? does it see two display or one?

We have not tested this, since we don't have a Display needing this kind of  setup..

Normally neither Mosaic (NVidia) nor Eyefinity groups (AMD) is used for a WATCHOUT multioutput setup.

I would guess WATCHOUT sees what Windows sees, one Display.

    Have you not tried??

if WO sees two display, then is there any option in WO to bind these two together so we can apply warping on these two as if they are one display?

    No, there is not.

  6. Hangam,

As you can see here, there are quite a few collegues here on the Forum,

who have successfully made this work.

So we know it works to control a Panasonic projector from within WATCHOUT.

It would be interesting hear back from you, what the issue where?

Just a final thought, all Display PC:s tweaked according to our guidelines?

    Firewall/UAC/Windows Defender all OFF?

    /jonas

  7. all we care is that it should be uncompressed 4K video.

I don't think one does uncompressed 4K video on just any Display PC.

This will need some serious hardware.

can you recommend any online store which we can download/buy videos that you know are compatible with WO?

    BR, Hashem

No, I can't recommend, but others can probably chime in here.

Are you not creating the content?

WATCHOUT accept/plays many fileformats, most common for 4K

is h264. If you have the necessary hardware resources, then

ProRes at 4K is possible. Still not uncompressed, though.

Framerate at 23.976/25/29.97/30 is less demanding than 50/59.95/60, of course

  8. Dear All,

we're looking for using Watchout to drive a 4K projector. this projector requires dual stream of Display Port 1.1 to make 4K resolutions on 2 x 2048x2160 side by side.

I've never seen this before, what projector is this?

Why not the normal way, to me, ie DisplayPort 1.2/1.2a or HDMI 1.4 direct, as one signal?

WATCHOUT has no problem to drive one or more 4K outputs, it's more of a hardware question,

and not only the graphics card. All hardware components in the system needs to be up to

the task of 4K playback. Choice of codec/bitrates comes in to play here, too.

Do you mean 4K as in 4K 4096x2160 or as UHD 3840x2160?

we understand nVidia Quadro K2000 can do 4K on Multi-Stream Transport(MST).

Maybe, but it can for sure do 4K on a DisplayPort 1.2 output, as one signal.

If it's a good match for other, more demanding WATCHOUT tasks, I don't know.

NVidia Quadro K2000 is also rather old now, replaced by K2200

I just wonder if you've tested this graphic card before?

    No, we have not.

We usually recommend higher end cards for WATCHOUT use, like the NVidia Quadro K5200/K4200 or AMD FirePro W7100

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/compare-quadro-gpus.html

    http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/graphics/workstation/firepro-3d/7100

we can also have AMD FirePro W5000 2 x Display Port, which one is recommended?

    I would say neither.

AMD FirePro W5000 is also rather old, being replaced by W5100.

That would be the better choice, I think.

  9. We have not seen it mentioned earlier.

If it's enough to send a Data string over RS232, it should be possible as a String Output from WATCHOUT.

This can be plain text, hexadecimal data bytes, or a combination of both. Trough a Serial port of a Display computer.

  10. I've got this configuration:

    intel i7 930 socket 1366 (y.2011)

nvidia gts 250 used with multiple output

    motherboard asus p6t

3 gb ram but i'm planning to upgrade this due to the low cost

This only makes sense if running a 64-bit Windows 7 system

i'm planning to buy two ssd disk: one 60 gb for windows installation (C:) and one of 128 gb for watchout.

    Seems good.

Do you think this hardware it's to old or it's good for couple of year?

The use will be video player with mask and geometry

    Thanks a lot

It's a bit dated, yes. It's considerably less than our WATCHOUT 5 launch setup from 2011.

    http://forum.dataton.com/topic/19-watchout-version-5-specifications-on-infocomm-2011-show-computers/

I would say it would be better to upgrade, but it also depends on how many outputs and how much/how heavy content one uses.

  11. Hangam,

What Panasonic projector is it, specifically?

To me it seems like it ought to work.

As I and JFK said in this recent thread on the forum:

    Jonas: http://forum.dataton.com/topic/1421-internal-dowsing-tcp-commands/?p=5698

By searching the Forum for "Panasonic", "PJlink" and "Panasonic control", I found this:

is a "how to" for setting up and controlling the dowser of Panasonic projectors using the PJlink protocol.

    Hope this helps,
    /jonas
