Moderator jfk Posted October 24, 2011 Moderator Report Share Posted October 24, 2011 Hello all, What are the plans to develop a WATCHOUT Android app? Dataton has addressed that with WATCHOUT Systems Manager,a set of software applications and components, allowing you to manage one or several WATCHOUT systems. It provides capabilities to control and monitor their operations in a predetermined, or interactive, manner. The utilities include WATCHOUT Remote, WATCHOUT Scheduler and The WATCHOUT Management API. All the applications included come with source code, allowing you to use them as starting points should you choose to customize for your own applications. Documentation is included in the WATCHOUT Systems Manager download package. The WATCHOUT Systems Manager collection runs under Adobe Air. Adobe Air runtime is available for the Android OS. Adobe AIR 2.6 for Android smartphones and tablets. AIR 2.6 for Android adds support for Android 3.0 and the latest Android tablet devices – including the Motorola Xoom – as well as improvements to performance and GPU-based rendering, updated Android gesture support, and improved handling of HTML content within AIR apps. [strong]AIR 2.6 for Android can be downloaded from the Android Marketplace[/strong] and is available on devices running: Android 2.2 (FroYo) Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) System requirements [strong]Android[/strong] ARMv7 processor with vector FPU, minimum 550MHz, OpenGL ES 2.0, H.264 and AAC HW decoders Android™ 2.2, 2.3, 3.0, 3.1, and 3.2 256MB of RAM
Member Lloyd Stewart Posted October 27, 2012 Member Report Share Posted October 27, 2012 But is there an android app, or prospects for one, for android phones, like the iPhone remote app? I'm gonna be upgrading my phone soon and want to stick with android, but will switch to an iPhone, if that is the only way to get the Watchout remote app on a smartphone. Thanks!
Moderator jfk Posted October 27, 2012 Moderator Report Share Posted October 27, 2012 But is there an android app, ... As stated above - yes, since the WATCHOUT 4.2 introduction of WATCHOUT Remote.. ... or prospects for one, for android phones, like the iPhone remote app? I'm gonna be upgrading my phone soon and want to stick with android, but will switch to an iPhone, if that is the only way to get the Watchout remote app on a smartphone. Thanks! The standard WATCHOUT Systems Manager Adobe Air WATCHOUT Remote application should work on an Android system with Adobe Air installed. - Adobe AIR - Android Apps on Google Play
Member Lloyd Stewart Posted October 27, 2012 Member Report Share Posted October 27, 2012 Ok. Thanks Jim. As usual, it looks like the problem is me and that I'm somehow screwing up the installation on my Samsung Galaxy S2. I did install Adobe Air first, but things get a little muddled after that. I'll work on it.
fdoeve
Jumping right in... Has anyone ever used Flash to build a remote app for android? I often use Flash to create touchscreen remotes for WO shows and want to try using an android tablet. Flash has the option to export for android, but would this work...? If anyone has ever done this i would love to hear! Frank Doeve R&D Communications The Netherlands
Mike Fahl
Should work. I assume you mean AIR for Android, though, since I believe Adobe discontinued Flash for Android some time ago. Mike
Jaireidca
I can't find anything in the documentation about how to install the adobe air products on android. I'm running the applications fine on adobe air for windows, but getting it to work on android seems very painful. Is there anywhere that has the steps spelled out? It seems the .air adobe air application has to be converted to a .apk android package. I looked up how to do that, downloaded the adobe air SDK, but have gotten stuck at the signing the app with a certificate. I'm not really a programmer, and haven't done much with certificates. Here's an example of what I was putting in as a command line in the SDK. adt -package -alias AIRcert -storetype jks -target apk WOsimpleremote input_air C:\temp\WOSimpleRemote.air Thanks, Jai Reid
Mike Fahl
We're currently in the process of revising our remote app for iOS 7. As part of this, we have some hope that we'll be able to make it work for Android as well (at lest recent versions of Android using the Chrome browser). Will let you know, hopefully in a few days.
