DocBenway
Hi guys, I have the chance to build a very, very powerful machine. The aim would be having around 40 Full HD synched outputs from a single server. Do you think it is doable? I was thinking of a Threadripper 3960x machine with 3x A5000, a quadro sync II and a bunch of Datapath FX4 to split the outs. And since the output resolution will be very massive, maybe even a Nvme raid. In the end, I think it would be less expensive than building 5 media servers... Do you think I could reach 60fps smooth playback on Hap footage? Cheers, Manu =)
Moderator jfk Posted November 18, 2021 Moderator Report Share Posted November 18, 2021 Not with WATCHOUT, maximum six outputs and those must be on a single graphics card. (multiple gpus to increase output count are not supported by DirectX multi- output).
Member jochri Posted January 7, 2022 Member Report Share Posted January 7, 2022 You can use VMWARE V-SPHERE to run multiple VMs with GPU PCIe passthrough out of one server. Just useful for very large deployments...
Dataton Partner RBeddig Posted January 7, 2022 Dataton Partner Report Share Posted January 7, 2022 The benefit of running 40 outputs from one server is of course that any hardware or software problem during the show will lead to a total blackout on the screen. Maybe building smaller server and one for backup purposes might be more suitable.

ectoplasmosis
You could build a single mammoth EPYC/Threadripper Pro based machine with 3x A5000 GPUs, running Watchout in 3x VMs on VMWare/Proxmox or similar... or you could build 2x much cheaper machines based on a consumer Ryzen/i7/i9 platform with a single AMD WX9100 each, running Windows on bare-metal, giving you 12x total 4K60 outputs for 48x 1080p60 via FX4s. Will cost less and be likely more reliable.
Member jochri Posted April 13, 2022 Member Report Share Posted April 13, 2022 If cheap is the only thing to consider ok… You can do that. That’s what seperates toys from tools I guess…
