… Btw, you write “Watchmaker”, my SW is called WatchOut. Is that different? …

No.

Dataton WATCHOUT refers to a family of applications.

  • Dataton WATCHOUT Production
  • Dataton WATCHOUT Display
  • Dataton WATCHOUT Dynamic Image Server.

If you look on your drive, you will discover the executable files that starts each application are

  • WATCHMAKER.exe (Dataton WATCHOUT Production)
  • WATCHPOINT.exe (Dataton WATCHOUT Display)
  • ImageServer.exe (Dataton WATCHOUT Dynamic Image Server aka DIS).

i.e. the application’s ‘nickname’ is derived from its executable file name. It is only slightly shorter to write watchmaker vs WATCHOUT Production. And I suppose I could just write Production instead. I picked up the use of the nicknames many years ago from communications with Dataton development staff.
