joeartist
I am working with a performance group that is performing live music to a PS4 video game while it is being played live. I am capturing the video game output via a BM Intensity Pro and have had success seeing the PS4 in BM Media Express. For some reason when I create a live video in Watchout and move it to the timeline, no live video appears. Looking for some thoughts on how to resolve this issue. What I have done: - Verified that BM Media Express is seeing the capture input. - Set the device within the Watchout display computer. - Created a Live Video from the media menu. - Live video setting: Input Device 2 HDMI:1 Video Standard: 1080i 5994 Deinterlacing: None - Verified that the input Resolution and refresh rate are 1080i 5994 which match the settings in Watchout. Hardware: Blackmagic Intensity Pro PS4 Any help of advice would be appreciated. Thank you, Joe
Moderator jfk Posted February 15, 2016 Moderator Report Share Posted February 15, 2016 Pretty sure this is a known anomaly unique to BMD products.Try setting your Live Input object in Production to1080i29.97 and it will probably work for a 1080i59.94 signal. Black Magic Media Express verifies connections, but does not verify the driver used by WATCHOUT. Be sure you have quit Media Express before starting WATCHOUT Display,or it will not work. Also, what driver listing did you designate when you"Set the device within the Watchout display computer." ? Mike Fahl
You may want to look into whether the PS4 outputs/expects a HDCP compatible device in the other end. Many conslles do, in which case I doubt you can make it work with capture. The fact that it shows up in Black Magics app would make you believe that's not the case here, though. But I've had trouble with this in the past with some consoles and capture cards.
Thomas Leong
In WO Production, if 1080i2997 does not work, try 1080p2997. Also, always CTRL+R to refresh/update the Media whenever you make any change to 'Video Standard' in the Live Video window of Production.
Jonas Dannert
I would attribute this to a HDCP issue, ie NO capture card will allow you to capture a HDCP-protected source, be it a PS-4, X-Box or BluRay-player. This for copyright legal reasons. /jonas
Dataton Partner Jim Testa Posted February 16, 2016 Dataton Partner Report Share Posted February 16, 2016 We have also found that the BMD driver version is important. Try version 10.3. This version presently seems to be stable with WATCHOUT.
joeartist
Thank you all for your help! I am using the BMD Intensity Pro Capture Card - Version 10.4.3 You are able to shut off the HDCP with in the PS4 so I did that, which allowed me to see the signal in BMD Express. Still not able to see it within Watchout even after changing to 1080p 2997. Any new thoughts? Thanks, Joe
Thomas Leong
If you are still having problems capturing to Watchout, then I'm quite sure a Decimator MX-HD Cross Converter (or Datavideo DAC-70 - more expensive) will solve the problem for you. joeartist
Thanks Thomas, We currently have HDMI to SDI converters made by BlackMagic. They are the Battery Converters SDI to HDMI and HDMI to SDI. Are you suggesting that I replace those with the ones from your post? Thanks, Joe
Thomas Leong
I'm not familiar with the Blackmagic converters, but do they output a known and acceptable resolution to the Intensity Pro and hence to Watchout? I'm not able to post any images here, so shall pm you with some screen capture procedures I've done to see if it works for you. Thomas Leong
JFK has kindly offered to host my images on his server, so here they are - used to test capture from Decklink Intensity (old version) and Decklink Studio 2 (also old version). Source in all cases was my Windows 10 laptop via HDMI. SDI capture was also tested with DataVideo DAC-70 and Decimator to convert the HDMI source to SDI. Step 1: Step 2: Step 3: Step 4: Watchout Preferences Step 5: Watchout Production PC (PS: Post Modified with added Screen Captures...fingers too fast last night!) Fredrik Svahnberg
Excellent Thomas! Just one small amendment to the last screen capture (above). "CTRL-D" for update (Not "CTRL-R")
Thomas Leong
Thanks, Fredrik. However, I have found that CTRL-R is necessary (and Ctrl-D to update the Displays) to refresh the media after any change to the 'Video Standard' in the Live Video window, else nothing happens and it looks like the change does not work!

Thomas Leong
songyost k., The decklink intensity is installed in the Display PC. On Prodn PC, if you do not have a capture card there, then just set Media for Live Video to 'Thumbnails' or if using a laptop with a webcam, set Media for Live Video to 'live video' (and you should see yourself in the webcam!). Additionally, from Prodn PC, you would have to access the Display PC via Stage > Manage Display Computer > Remote Access (or Ctrl+Shift+A from Prodn PC), and in the popup remote window, choose the Capture Card Input 1, 2 or 3, etc on the Display PC, then Ctrl+W to get back to fullscreen Display PC. Steps 1, 2 and 3 in the pictures above are from the Display PC, the pc where the Decklink capture card is installed in. Steps 4 & 5 in the pictures are settings from Watchout Production PC. Hope that solves your problem, else let us know and we shall have to try again, or make a trip (I to Thailand if that is where you are, or you to Kuala Lumpur) to do it hands-on. Moderator jfk Posted April 24, 2017 Moderator Report Share Posted April 24, 2017 FYI I am hearing reports from customers that selecting the device in watchpoint may have changed with newer BMD capture cards. Where the customers had used the DeckLink selection in the past, that did not work with the Intensity Pro 4k and selecting BlackMagic WDM capture cured their issue. ymmv
