Hi I'm facing a problem, which is probably workflow/user generated. I create a new task with a live video input. I fade it up from zero to e.g. 1 second, and then pause it, with a Pause action in the timeline. When I continue playback, I have placed control cue, which makes the cursor jump to zero, and the pause. The problem is when the users open the show, all the tasks are set to stop, and I know it's done so, so none of the tasks contribute to the show. Until they are activated and played out. What we see is, that when you fade up a live video signal, and the timeline is set to "stop", the fade up flickers and lags, and sometime just jump to a 100%. Is there a method, e.g. starting the fade up one second later, so you don't experience these issues, when you start up a new show? I have to mention, that when it have played out the first time, the task is set to pause at zero, and then it works fine from there. Best regards Christian

You can use them as both capture and playout cards. They can be configured with up to 8 in/outputs, with live HDSDI. A little expensive, but extremely powerful and stable. /C

Thx for the inputs. We use a Miranda system at the moment, and I guess we have to stick with that ;-) We do though use Matrox MIO 2 videocards, in other areas of our production flow. Have you tried that? /C

Hi I'm facing some issues using HDMI output's from Watchout. I'll leave the long technical explanation out, since it's irrelevant here. The system I work with, uses a Decklink Quad HDSI board for live video input. Since the video card also have 4 output channels, my question is, if anyone have tried to use Watchout with that configuration? The system is configured with an AMD Firepro W9000 as the output card, but that only delivers HDMI, and I don't want to convert HDMI to HDSDI. I hope someone can help me Best regards Christian

Hi We've just build a brand new Watchout setup, the second of two, and have started using it. We installed it with the latest version, 5.5.1, but we have discovered a troubling error. It happens when we want to add a new text media file. We have several times experienced, that the production software crashed, and one time so badly, it corrupted the showfile. We tried to rebuild it, according to a suggestion in an earlier post, but we didn't suceed. It doesn't happen everytime, and I can't recreate the conditions when it happens. It's pretty random. Is this something others have experienced, and is there anything we can do, to prevent this from happening again? Best regards Christian -
Hi Thomas I had a similar challenge, and I fixed it by creating a black image, and then position it, according to what I wanted to hide. I don't know if this will help in your case. But I do agree that a shape/mask tool will be very a great feature to have. Best regards Christian

We use a KVM DVI switch matrix, from Gunthermann & Drunck http://www.gdsys.de/en/products/kvm-matrix-switches/ Actually we use this with almost all our stationary equipment. It works great, and and make it possible to get access from anywhere. /Christian

Hi Has someone tried to make a Grass Valley Kayenne Production Switcher control Watchout? I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it, but I want to do it over ethernet. Inside the GVG system, there's an option to define external devices, eg. DDR, VTR etc., but I'm not sure if that's the way to go. Basically I want to be able to control the AUX timelines, meaning triggering all the preprogrammed tasks I have made for each show. So if anyone have done this before, and want to share it, I'll be very grateful Cheers Christian

In my case 8 is fine. Did you install it with 2 quad cards, or is there another way to obtain 8 live video inputs? Best regards Christian

Hi I'm configuring a brand new setup in one of our TV studios. For that purpose we will build an entirely new set of nodes. We have earlier built our systems with both dual and quad cards from Black Magic. My question is, if there's any limitations to the number of input cards? Except hardware limitations off course. I this case, I'm thinking about building the nodes with either 2 quad cards, or a dual and a quad. The reason is that I need at least 6 simultaneous video inputs. Have any one previous experience with a similar setup? Cheers Christian

Problem using WATCHOUT Display with Windows 8.1

Just curious, why are you planning to use Win 8, instead of Win 7? Our current tests has shown, that you don't get any extra benefits, except, as you have already experienced, an increased possibility of errors. In my opinion, Win 8 is an OS designed for home users, and not for production equipment. Win 7 & 8 have almost the same Microsoft time scope, which means that it will be supported, as minimum, until 2020. And that goes for both OS systems. We have rolled back som upgrades to Win 8, since we experienced more errors than advantages with Win 8, and all the colleagues, in different company's and business areas, I know, are doing the same, staying with Win 7. This is of course only my opinion, but it's shared with many others. Best regards Christian -

Jonas, we do that, so if something happens while we are on air, we can acces the node, without affecting any of the onair monitors. I know you can configure it to run with six outputs. /Christian

Hi, glad you found the Parrot solution, which is exactly the same solution we use. And to make things even easier, we have build our node PC's, using this graphic card: http://www.amd.com/us/products/workstation/graphics/ati-firepro-3d/w9000/Pages/w9000.aspx With that solution we have 5 outputs from one machine. You can configure it with 6 outputs, but for support reasons, we have saved one for the the OS. It also means you just need one node license. Best regards Christian

I'd like to have a scripting interface, and preferably in one of the general languages, VB script, Pearl etc. And also a capability to work with templates. This means you could have some one outside the Watchout environment, produce and generate content, that could be changed dynamically during an event. I know that you could probably achieve something similar with Flash, and then import a Flash project in to Watchout, but I think that's to complicated. Cheers Christian

This is exactly how we use it, and with almost the same aspect. Depending on your setup, it should work without problems. What you should consider, is the video format you are using, end especially how long/large the footage files are. In the manual it's pretty well defined what codecs works the best. What I sometimes do, is using VLC for transcoding. It's freeware, and works great. What you can accomplish is getting the specific aspect you want, in the codec you need. If I, for example, design a loop in After Effects, I can post render all the aspects I want, but not all the codecs I want. So normally I render it out from AE in QuickTime animation, to keep the quality, and then I transcode it with VLC. Please feel free to contact me, if you want any further help. Best regards Christian

Hi I'm creating a new studio show, for the upcoming Winter Olympics. It's going to be used in a TV studio, and since we are going to be on air many times during the day, I want to automate some of the tasks. I want change from morning atmosphere to mid day, and ending up with an evening atmosphere. Is there any way of using the internal clock on the client PC, to automate these tasks, so e.g. at 1 PM it will switch to the midday loop? I know things can be controlled by LTC, and that you can script certain events, but I haven't been able to figure out a method to accomplish what I have described. Is there any way to do this, entirely inside Watchout, or do I need an external trigger? Best regards Christian

What about this card: ASUS RADEON HD7990 6GB PCI-E DVI/DP? I'm setting up a 3 projector system, with edgeblending, and would like it to be part of a bigger Sport studio setup. And will that card be able to work with the recommended sync card? Cheers Christian

Hi I have just made a setup, exactly as you described. We used three Barco projectors, and one multiple output PC. The screen was curved in a 5 degree angle, so that was an extra challenge. So we hired a specialist to aligned all the projectors, using the Barco software. After the alignment, it was very easy to make the edgeblending look perfect, and it actually just enedes minor corrections in Watchout to be perfect. So my advice is, that if your projectors come with alignment software, do the main aligning there, and only the minor corrections in watchout. It will also make it easier for future alignments, if you have the same basic aligning as your starting point. Plus the staff at our Support department find it much easier to handle. I would love to have a linear key option, on the live HD/HDSDI live video input. That would really be an improvement, and upscale the system in the TV production environment. Cheers Christian
